Publisher's Summary

In June 2004, 16-year-old Liam Kelly was lured to a location in Liverpool in the early hours of one morning and shot dead. The following year, another Liverpudlian, 22-year-old mother of three Lucy Hargreaves, was shot dead in her own home. Her partner and their two-year-old daughter escaped after the house was set alight by leaping from a first-floor bedroom window.

For more than 15 years, six-foot six-inch, broadly built, ginger-haired Kevin Parle has been wanted by the police for both murders. How could he have evaded national and international crime investigators for so long? Who is harbouring him?

Author and former Scotland Yard detective and undercover cop Peter Bleksley is determined to find the answers. He has immersed himself again in the world of serious and organised crime, this time armed only with a pen, a notebook and a mobile phone. He has vowed not to rest until Parle is found.

This gripping story goes behind the scenes of the hit BBC Sounds podcast Manhunt: Finding Kevin Parle

Great story but the sound volume is a bummer

I love hearing from true investigators about the details of their lives and pursuits of individuals who need, or needed, to be stopped. This is a very good example of dedication and reminder that there are good people (and tolerant, supportive family members) doing good work. The sound quality is unfortunate but this audiobook is still very listenable. Keep up the great work, sir - and thanks for sharing this story.

Autobiography

Author just talks about himself all the time, in the first three hours I've hardly heard anything about the case, I gave up with it.

Don’t bother

This is all about the author’s ego. What a waste of time. Seems concluding an investigation is not the motivation, cashing in is. A recurring theme with this guy I guess.

needs editing ...

couldn't finish...loads of unnecessary talking about incredibly boring stuff....
I love crime documentaries but this is not exciting at all ... as I said, half of it could of been chopped out or its just not my cup of tea.

Barely anything about the case

The book seems to be only vaguely related to the case and almost entirely about the author’s life. Far too much detail about the author’s disdain for certain football clubs, how much money he makes from certain gigs etc. It didn’t teach me anything about the case and I found more information with a quick Google search than I did with this audiobook.

Gripping narrative of one man's mission of justice

Peter Bleksley tells us of his mission to hunt one of the country's most wanted murderers, Kevin Parle.

Told in Peter's own words, he manages to expertly navigate through the journey of how he started the hunt for Parle, and subsequently how his investigation and the production of his award winning podcast unfolded, weaving in narrative of his past working as a detective for New Scotland Yard.

The narrative is fresh, with the true determined grit of Blesksley shining through.

Unlike a usual audio book, I truly felt immersed in this journey, as if I was a fly on the wall throughout Peter's hunt. Or listening to his story from his own mouth over a glass of red. The deviations into stories from Bleksley's past moulded seamlessly with the manhunt narrative and made it all seem so natural.

The book kept me gripped throughout, with new information, twists and turns in every chapter.

Thoroughly, thoroughly recommend this to anyone who loves a good true crime memoir, as no doubt this manhunt will go down in the history books.

I, I, I, me, me, me

Concur with the other reviewer here. I gave up an hour or so into it. Life’s too short… The author/narrator seems far more interested in telling people about himself than anything else.

I’m happy that this audiobook was free

This audiobook would’ve been so much better if it was less about Peter Blesksley and more about the hunt. Honestly who needs to know what you’re eating or how much money you’re making from podcast, we get it your the only person Investigating no need to keep reminding the listener.

One man's problems with others not listening

A book bought on a whim after finishing the krays and gave it 4 hours. it's seems the purpose of the book had been lost and the author is more concerned with himself and the fantasy of what he would have done in hindsight. if only Liverpool FC would have put a picture up at half time at the champions leauge final as if they want to associate themselves with crime. A really difficult listen and the narrator wants to look at voicing hypnosis tapes. 😕

Impossible to listen to

Horrible, boring and painfully self-absorbed. This narration and style belongs back in the forties, where it should remain buried forever.

Talked too much about everything else but the hunt

This guy is too busy blowing his own trumpet too much, and not enough actually telling the story about the manhunt. Killed me in the end, I couldn’t finish the book.

Rambling

I found this really hard to concentrate on as it seemed to just ramble a lot of the time.

Enjoyable

There was a lot of stuff that I didn’t imagine that was in the book talk about thinking outside the square
