Publisher's Summary

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author offers his first major work of nonfiction, an autobiographical narrative as inventive, beautiful, and powerful as his acclaimed, award-winning fiction. Manhood for Amateurs is the first sustained work of personal writing from Michael Chabon. In these insightful, provocative, slyly interlinked essays, one of our most brilliant and humane writers presents his autobiography and his vision of life in the way so many of us experience our own: as a series of reflections, regrets and re-examinations, each sparked by an encounter, in the present, that holds some legacy of the past. What does it mean to be a man today?

As a devoted son, as a passionate husband, and above all as a father, Chabon's memories of childhood, of his parents' marriage and divorce, of moments of painful adolescent comedy and giddy encounters with the popular art and literature of his own youth, are like a theme played by the mad quartet of which he now finds himself co-conductor. At once dazzling, hilarious, and moving, Manhood for Amateurs is destined to become a classic.

Meh

narration was good, I wanted to like it based off the title. Maybe it improves, it was a struggle getting through free excerpt. Well written, unfortunately kind of a snooze fest. Maybe change title from man to boy would be more apropos.

Not What I Was Expecting

I love Michael Chabon but this audiobook sample was too short to really capture my attention. It was an interesting snapshot on Chabon's love for music but I didn't really connect with it. I don't have the same love of music as he does, although I did find this quirky story charming at the points where Chabon interacted with his mom's boyfriend.

Michael chabon has given a awesome story

the way the story gets the most important thing is that the same time as I have a great day and I will be a good idea to have the same thing happened to the same time as the one I had the same as a result I will be in touch with the same time I was wondering how I can do to help with your company is in the future I will have a great time with you on Monday and Wednesday at the same time to do it in a few months I have to be in a few weeks back
