Publisher's summary

Determined to remove herself from the rules and regulations of her overbearing religious parents, Avery escapes to college and is determined to make it on her own. Working as a bartender, and mere weeks before her college graduation, she finds herself face-to-face with 30 members of an outlaw motorcycle club.

She had no idea when the president of the club walked in she'd go weak in the knees for the gorgeous tattooed biker.

Axton (aka Slice) is the president of the Selected Sinners MC. At the onset of a huge gun deal with a notorious prison gang, he has no time or desire to have a woman in his life. Abused by his Hells Angel father as a child, and wronged by every woman in his past, Axton has one devotion - the MC.

After finding out he needs Avery's criminal justice education and her linguistic skills to assist in making the gun deal a success, Axton reluctantly approaches her to act as his interpreter.

Hoping to win Axton over, Avery attempts to turn off her smart mouth, turn on her charm, and become his woman of interest, even if it means sacrificing a level of independence she's grown accustomed to.

But when the gun deal goes to hell in a handbasket, both Avery and Axton are left wondering what their next move may be.

upset reader

This book was ok until they decided to use racial slurs in the book. You can still make a good book without saying nigger. I don't appreciate it as I am African American and I was enjoying the book until I heard that.

I could barely make it ten minutes listening to this book. the performance is one of the worst I have heard.. Maybe pne day I will try to read the book. As for now, the experience of this audio book has soured me from trying new authors

Hm...

The narrators were amazing, but honestly...I’m not 100% sure of how I feel about this book. I seriously didn’t like the main “hero”, Avery and her bff seemed to have a shallow mean girl kind of friendship, and Avery never liked the way she looked till what’s his name came along and then she felt that she was beautiful because of him. I mean—ok I know how I feel now.

Didn’t like the book. Would have been better if not done as a romance, and Avery didn’t put so much emphasis on a man’s opinion of herself. And doing whatever she could to please him just because he was a “challenge”. Ugh

He Made Progress and She Made The Cut!

I've listened to well over 600 audiobooks and love ALL types of romances from sweet and loving to dark, raw and gritty. Admittedly, I've only listened to handful of male romance authors but I have to say Scott Hildreth is my favorite male author so far. He really delivered a dark unapologetic, gritty, MC story, and did a great job building up the relationship between the H/h. I will definitely be continuing the series; however, I do have a few comments about what I like and disliked.

First, I loved, LOVED Biff's performance and thought he did an awesome job portraying Axton. I loved how he delivered all Axton's sarcastic, gritty dialogue. I've listened to both Biff Summers and Bunny Warren in the past, they make a great team and made this an enjoyable audio experience.

The MC world building was excellent! This isn't no do-gooder MC gang. Yeah, they will kill for the right reasons, but don't have any issues taking out those who cross them.

The main characters as well as the secondary characters were intriguing. I liked they all had their own personalities, and quirks. Some of my favorites were Axton aka Slice, Otis, and Toad. Even though Avery was Axton's love interest, I didn't think she was playing with a full deck. Which brings me to what I liked least, Avery's obsession and jealously over her best friend Sloan's body, especially her tits and Avery's lack of them. It would have been ok for her to think about it some, but my gosh, she thought about it some much she really came across as someone with a low self esteem but she was suppose to me this tough firecracker. Even with her obsession with her body, at least being with Axton finally gave her the self confidence to like her own body.

The only other issue I had with the story was Axton's plan to set up Sloan at the Barbeque. This wasn't cool, and even worse Avery was ok with the plan even though she was suppose to be her best friends.

Compared to other erotic stories, the chemistry and steam factor is on the lower side. The H/h don't have sex until over halfway through the story, instead the story builds their relationship up. Now, the cop car was a first.

Overall this was a very entertaining story full of action, humor, interesting characters and a unique H/h. A few unanswered questions, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives, and I look forward to listening to the rest of the series. However, this is one of those MC stories where some listeners will love it while others won't.

Trigger warning

The few sex scenes weren’t bad but this book includes willingly leading someone to consent-free sex and lots of derogatory racial speak, as well as fat-shaming without real need. Lots of sloppily justified murders, too, and our primary female character completely changes her personality for her man. The characters are unlikeable or unreal enough that I didn’t particularly care whether they got their happy ending.

I could tell this book was written by a man. only a man would think the way this women was talk to and treated in this book is ok. This author seem to never had experience with women. Thumbs down.

Could have been a contender!

When I started this book I was like YEAH! The main character was not being claimed by some dude, she was doing the claiming. She wasn't going to take no for an answer. She wasn't going to be constrained by a strict religious upbringing. But then she decided to be constrained by a thug. She changed her personality and even her future for a guy. She swapped being controlled by God for control by a guy. On top of that her insecurities lead to her setting up her best friend/roommate for a gang rape. She thrived on what other people might be saying about her when she was with a good looking guy or on the back of a bike. She was overly concerned about what people thought of her, her body etc, but the author tried to paint her as confident. Epic fail. The girl started off as a self possessed regular girl but by the middle of the book her looks evolved to drop dead gorgeous and her boy body type became hot. Last if your bestie is engaging in dangerous sexual behavior, you don't hate, you don't judge you at least try to intervene, to protect. The main character went from ultra cool to a useless self absorbed....insert pejorative here. Hurray for the regular girl. Writers don't be scared to use her.

I was unsure what to expect but, LOVED IT!

I preordered this book because I thought the summary sounded interesting and I love my alpha male biker books. If you're looking for a book with a lot of steamy sex scenes in it then this book isn't for you but if you want a relationship building experience with an alpha who doesn't like women and a girl who grew up in a small town and has a sharp tongue this is it. The main male character who is the president of the MC isn't your typical MC president. He has quirks and idiosyncrasies that sets him apart from your typical alpha male. I loved the book and i had never heard the narrators before but they were surprisingly really good. I'm always hesitant to buy a book with narrators I've never heard before but it paid off in the end. I listened to the whole book straight through because I couldn't turn it off.

3 1/2 stars.

This is definitely a less romantic story then most MC romAnces. I'm not sure but, it may be because of the aurhor. The crazy thing was the setting. It was set in And around my home town. There were a lot of accurate references, to the area. There is quite a bit of brutal violence, in the story, so if that bothers you, pick Another book. There is really only two sex scenes and they don't happen until the last couple of chapters. This relationship develops much slower than most romantic novels; but overall, I enjoyed it.
