Critic reviews

" Making Babies is an excellent, well-organized guide on how to get pregnant naturally. It combines the best of both Western and Chinese methods." (Marc Goldstein MD, coauthor of the upcoming A Baby At Last! and surgeon in chief, male reproductive medicine and surgery, at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College)
"Ask a fancy reproductive endocrinologist about acupuncture and you're likely to hear, 'If it relaxes you, it's fine with me.' In other words, the official position of the high-tech fertility folks on traditional fertility medicine amounts to benign ignorance. Making Babies will change that. Here's proof that traditional and modern methods work, and not only that: they work better together. This is very good news for mothers, fathers, and babies." (Nina Planck, author of Real Food for Mother and Baby: The Fertility Diet, Eating for Two, and Baby's First Foods)
"We applaud the main message of this book: improving your health improves your chances of fertility. Making Babies is a must-read for couples wanting to increase their chances of conceiving." (William Sears, MD, and Martha Sears, RN, coauthors of The Pregnancy Book and The Baby Book)

I enjoyed this book!

It helped me understand more about what I should expect from my doctors. I wish I had bought it a year ago. My journey would have been alot different.

Extremely informative, I highly recommend!

this book has a weather of information and I wish I would have read it prior to IVF. I had a few failed attempts at IVF, (fell pregnant twice) but it failed. I truly believe if I had implemented the suggestions in this book for at least 3 months prior i definitely would have had success.

that said I suggest this book to anyone thinking about TTC and work on you first then try. I have not given up hope and will update you all when I become pregnant. best of luck to us all TTC!

Great information

This book is very helpful for any couples struggling with infertility. They don't address premature ovarian aging or diminished ovarian reserve, which is odd considering they cover so many other causes of infertility. Still worth reading to get hints how to make the right lifestyle changes

Helpful comparison of options

Very helpful for comparing conventional medicine and more natural options. It is refreshing to see how the two can work together to produce results with less side effects and/or less invasive procedures. I also liked how the authors used detailed explanation of how the treatments, hormones, and nutrients work in the body. The case studies were also very encouraging.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book!

This was extremely informational and I'm glad I came across it when I did. I'm looking into purchasing the physical book right now to go back over all the important things he talked about for my specific fertility type.

Excellent & informative

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was a wonderful book. The combination of the Western medicine and Eastern medicine provided such a fantastic framework. The science is clearly laid out and many helpful suggestions on non-invasive steps that can be done to improve your fertility. It also thoroughly laid out all of the myriad forms that infertility can arise. I would highly recommend this, particularly if you are interested in conceiving naturally.

This book is a MUST READ!

After 8 months of TTC, I was finally able to give up alcohol and caffeine after reading this book. I have read a few fertility books on the subject and continued to hear the same thing. Those two things just don't build a healthy baby. I also completely changed my diet an eliminated junk, processed food, sugar 80% of the time. So far I feel great. This book's supplement recommendations are also on point with other nutrition books I have read. I finally feel on track! I will update once I get that BFP.

Good info for your library but…

First off, let me say that this book is surely a great one to have in your library if you are having infertility issues that are hard to explain. The authors pull back all the layers and offer informative avenues of exploration so you can self diagnose or have the information you need to talk constructively with your doctor. If you have been diagnosed with “undetermined infertility” or “old eggs” or a doctor seems to have thrown up their hands unsure of next steps (or sure there are no options) then this book offers plenty of potential empowerment for you.

What I don’t like about the book is the tone. Although the authors deny it, I heard a wall of “don’t do IVF”. The idea is that “natural is always better when possible” which I don’t necessarily agree with. Nature can be a heartless beast and to be so resistant to technological intervention is an overcorrection in my estimation. The beginning of the book is particularly troubling to me as the authors suggest some unscrupulous IVF doctor may swap an embryo without a patient knowing and Dr. David reflects on his first IVF experience looking at a test tube and saying to himself “those are babies in there!”. Examples like those reek of unfair bias to me.

Once you’re into the diagnosis and treatment sections, there is plenty of practical advice. The super in depth sex-Ed section is fabulous. And if you find something that explains your issues, you’ll surely find useful information. That said, some of the info seems out of date and controversial at best so use this book only as part of your library, not an infallible guide.
