Publisher's summary

For years, the DeCavalcantes, the most powerful Mob family in Jersey, labored in the shadows of the more famous families in New York - the likes of the Gambinos and the Columbos. Dismissed by the big-city capos, the DeCavalcantes finally came into their own when they found their lives mirrored in the television hit, The Sopranos. Overnight it legitimized the made men of the Garden State. Now they were a familia to be reckoned with. Unfortunately with high profile came high risk. As member turned against member, as trusted friend turned terrified informant, the FBI put the brakes on the DeCavalcante’s explosive ride into infamy, hastening a fall from honor that would become as infamous as their notorious ascension into the annals of organized crime.

Based on more than 1,000 hours of secretly recorded conversations, Made Men delivers, for the first time, the unprecedented and completely uncensored behind-the-scenes truth of a historically clandestine world - of violent life and sudden death inside and outside the mob, told by the very men who made it.

Excellent !!

Some of the review's of this book make no sense. One mentioned that one of the guys keeps saying how fat he was. There are about 3 or 4 mentions over almost 10 hrs. If your a mob genre person, your going to love this book. It has all the usual stuff from these kinds of books. If your not familiar with the genre, it might seem odd. The narrator does a great job. He has a voice and style perfect for this subject.

dry, procedural, colorless.

This audiobook is basically just the recitation of a few key excerpts of government wiretaps. There is no "story of the rise" to be had here. The book begins and ends with a single low level informants story.

Well done. Just like Cats we laughed we cried. Stories tied together nicely. Great performance.

A view of a famous crime family

I've never seen the tv series and I was curious to hear this account of the ups and downs of this crime family. It was well narrated and written and occasionally humerous but for me had little entertainment value, for that reason I put it in the second tier in my library.

Captivating! I couldn't put it down...

I usually only enjoy stories that are told first-hand. however in this case this book was different. Do you want them and the narrator have a unique way of making you feel like you are in the moment. The story is amazing the narrator is amazing and it is perfectly written. I wish every book on Audible was this good.

Real Sopranos

I am a huge fan of The Sopranos and I'd heard this was the family the showed was somewhat based on. They narrator did an a great job making a watered-down story more interesting. this book isn't the worst mafia-related book I've ever listened to but it's not the best either. I'm not disappointed but not thrilled it's not bad not great just average. I did learn about the New Jersey side of the mafia. I'd give this book a 7/10

Very flawed

There is an interesting story somewhere in here, but the writing is a mess. Not polished or professional, this may be OK if you were reading a blog, but not up to the standard set by Scott M. Burnstein or others. This was a waste of time.
