Publisher's summary

Kai Gracen has no intention of being anyone's pawn. A pity Fate and SoCalGov have a different opinion on the matter.

Licensed Stalkers make their living hunting down monsters and dangerous criminals, and their lives are usually brief, brutal, and thankless. Despite being elfin and cursed with a nearly immortal lifespan, Kai didn't expect to be any different. Then Ryder, the High Lord of the Southern Rise Court, arrived in San Diego, and Kai's not-so-mundane life went from mild mayhem to full-throttle chaos.

Now an official liaison between the growing Sidhe Court and the human populace, Kai is at Ryder's beck and call for anything a High Lord might need a Stalker to do. Unfortunately for Kai, this means chasing down a flimsy rumor about an ancient lost Court somewhere in the Nevada desert - a court with powerful magics that might save Ryder's - and Kai's - people from becoming a bloody memory in their Merged world's violent history.

The race for the elfin people's salvation opens unwelcome windows into Kai's murky past, and it could also slam the door on any future he might have with his own kind and Ryder.

excellent!

Great urban fantasy. Reminds me of the Dresden Files. I was really happy with it, though if you are looking for romance, this series is very much in the slow burn category. I appreciate that, but not everyone might .

Review for the first and second

I wasn't sure I'd like these books even though I love both Rhys Ford and Greg Tremblay. They sat on my audible for quite awhile. Now I'm mad at myself for not listening sooner.
As always, the combination of Rhys Ford and Greg Tremblay is nothing short of magical. I'm ready for book 3 now.
I will say I sobbed when Shorty was telling Kai about her memory of first meeting Kai. God, that gutted me.
Get this series. You won't regret it.

No racy bits, just a solid story

I’m used to having a bit more steam from this author but I think my favorites stories are her science fiction/fantasy ones. Her world building is interesting and the characters are engaging. Greg Tremblay is consistently one of my favorite readers.

exceptional narration of a great story

As I said above. Exceptional narration as usual. Really brings Rhys Ford's books to life. One 9f my favourite characters too.

Not a sophomore sequel

The narrator continues to do a superb job. This may be the second book in a series but it suffers from none of the traditional flaws frequently found in such cases. It's a well crafted novel that deepens our understanding on all levels leaving us hungry for more.

Love this Series

I absolutely fell in love with Kai in the first book. Not much has changed for me in regards to this character. I enjoyed the story now with a little more knowledge of the world around Kai. But just like the reader Kai and his compatriots are still learning about their world. This newest adventure sees Kai and Ryder get closer to that relationship that you could see developing in the first book. Also there was a glimpse into Kai's origins. Kai is a fascinating character as is Ryder. The two men are very different and fit so well. The author isn't concentrating on that relationship though in the books, it is a side plot. Kai is the story. He gives us a look into this messed up world in which he lives.

I commend the author in the descriptions of the world in the story. The wording used to give us a view is well scripted. It almost edges into a too wordy description but manages, for me at least, to hang just on the edge and give me a wonderful, awe-inspiring look into the imaged world that the author has created. The growth of the characters is evident and intriguing. The plot line though insane is really gripping.

I totally enjoyed this book and soooo look forward to the next adventure into Kai's world.

Re-read: Still the same. I listened to this on audio before but will now add thoughts on the narrator. He is AWESOME. I love how he puts in the slight accent to make Kai's speech slightly different and the same with Ryder. This narrator has always done an amazing job on the books he reads. He adds a lot of depth and richness to the characters.

great second book

This book adds the the first developing the characters and the world. The plot for this book is solid with enough action to keep people entertained and some mystery and explanations about Kai

Kai Gracen is the best

This series from Rhys Ford is a favorite of mine. I listen to it at least twice a year, and get something more out of it each time.

Greg Tremblay is a fantastic reader and really brings the characters alive in my head.

The premise of the Fae world and the human world colliding together is fascinating and fun with strange creatures and stranger people!

I want more!

This was the second book in The Kai Gracen series.

I have to confess that I'm really liking this series the more you learn about Kai the more mystery you find . This book was another little slice into what and who Kai truly is . In this book we find out how Kai was made and what he was made from . I'm just waiting for the time where Kai will let himself be happy . I hope that the Author doesn't make us wait too long

When Amazng meets Fantastic..SPOILERS...SPOILERS

Any additional comments?

In the middle of action, adventure, betrayal, demented elf's trying to play God, and laying the foundation to relationships bound in loyalty, you're gifted with a slow burning romance between Ryder and Kai.

If you are looking for erotica between two men, this story isnt for you.

But if you are looking for a story between two men who learn to respect each other, who learn to care for each other, who learn to protect each other, who look past lust and sexual desire in leui of truly seeing what is real in each others heart and soul through out an adventure full of dragons, creatures made of nightmares, explosions, gun fights, and so much d@mn action you almost miss the fantastic mystery surrounding their adventure, then this is a story for you.

💖 I absolutely loved everything about this story and Im so d@mn excited to see where Ryder and Kai's relationship will end up.

My God, there were some truly beautiful moments between Kai and a couple of the characters in this story. Ryder pouring his heart out to Kai -sniff, sniff- just beautiful. But the moment that brought unshed tears to my eyes was between Kai and Sparky.

"I fell in love with that young boy lyng on my workbench as still as he could so we could undo what a monster did to him."

-shaky sigh- Greg, Greg, Greg! That man has me falling in love with these characters he passionately potrays and thats talent when its done with only a voice 💖
