Publisher's summary

One of them is a best-selling, Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist. The other is a winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor. Together, they form the League of Comic Justice, battling evildoers in the name of... Okay, we made that line up. What they do form is a writing team of pure comic genius, and they will have you laughing like idiots.

Philip Horkman is a happy man - the owner of a pet store called The Wine Shop, and on Sundays a referee for kids' soccer. Jeffrey Peckerman is the sole sane person in a world filled with goddamned jerks and morons, and he's having a really bad day. The two of them are about to collide in a swiftly escalating series of events that will send them running for their lives, pursued by the police, soldiers, terrorists, subversives, bears, and a man dressed as Chuck E. Cheese.

Where that all takes them you can't begin to guess, but the literary journey there is a masterpiece of inspiration and mayhem. But what else would you expect from the League of Comic Justice?

It has been quite awhile since I have laughed like this. This book reminds me of Firesign Theatre only alittle diferent in a very good way. Pick it up, you will not be disappointed

LOL Funny

Language is a bit rough for some listeners, but omigosh this book made me laugh OUT LOUD consistently! Great fun and at a time where the news gets hammered for over zealous less-than-factual reporting, truly current! Loved it!

LOL Funny

I've been a fan of Dave Barry for years, and he didn't let me down with this very funny book. Laughed so hard I got tears in my eyes a few times. If you're sensitive to a little profanity, you may not enjoy it so much. If you're not, you will enjoy it very much indeed. Loved the story and the performance totally.

Please make it into a movie.

Bought the book and then bought the audible version. It's even funnier when the writers are the narrators. It would make a hilarious movie.

Hang in there

This is my first read with author Alan Zweibel and I really enjoyed his performance. His humorous style is distinctly different from Dave Barry's. Together they are quite a team. Now, for this story . . .

It took several hours for me to find the humor in this story. The two main characters repeatedly call each other juvenile names, and the Peckerman character is blatantly offensive with his racist, misogynistic, juvenile narcissism. You can’t help but love the Hortman character, but even his normalcy depicted alongside Peckerman's fetid personality did little to quell the stench. I thought, there must be something more here that the authors trying to communicate, so I hung in there. And I was right.

There are humorous bits here and there in the beginning, mostly from the situations these two find themselves in. But the laughs really start when the story reaches its climax. That’s when you find out why the Peckerman character is written the way it is.

Don’t want to give it away, but worth the read.

Such an Entertaining Read

I spent a very enjoyable 7 hours listening to this novel. The performance was outstanding, and the story, while a bit profane at times, and quite the farce was so entertaining. It even got a bit prophetic toward the end... Highly recommend for a time when you just want to be amused and entertained. Caution: Listening with headsets at work causes out loud laughter resulting in strange looks from co-workers.
