Story
We were outnumbered, outfought. Mankind was about to fall to the alien Flock. Our only chance was a desperate gamble, transforming Tier One SpecOps agents into deadly super soldiers. In the end, we won the war, but we lost the peace. The Flock surrendered and spent the next two hundred years making reparations, indentured to humanity, doing everything humans did not want to do. And the evolved super soldiers were consigned to an endless sleep. Ready if ever needed, but in time they became myths. Abandoned and forgotten.

Story
In this sweeping, threaded narrative of the global phenomenon known as the Vampire Wars, mankind is unwittingly infected by a millennia-old bacteria unknowingly exhumed by a scientific expedition in Antarctica. Now, in some rare cases, a person’s so-called junk DNA becomes activated. Depending on their racial and ethnic heritage, they begin to manifest one of the many diverse forms of the "others" that are the true basis for the legends of supernatural creatures. These aren’t your usual vampires and werewolves - it goes much deeper than that.

His works include Glimpse, The Wolfman, X-Files Origins: Devil's Advocate, the Joe Ledger thrillers, the Rot & Ruin series, the Dead of Night series, and many others. He is the editor of anthologies including The X-Files, Aliens: Bug Hunt, and Nights of the Living Dead, co-edited with zombie genre creator George A. Romero. About the Performer
Recognized for his smooth and versatile tenor, Scott Brick has narrated more than 850 audiobooks since his start in 2000. He has won numerous Audie Awards, including two in 2016 for his performances of Jurassic Park and The Patriot Threat, and has twice been named the Publishers Weekly Narrator of the Year. As an avid fan of old-time radio shows, Brick naturally took to audiobooks, saying, “It’s storytelling at its purest.” He pays attention to detail, prepares diligently, and holds himself to a high standard—so much so that after obsessing for years over a mispronounced name in his The Lion’s Game recording, he leapt at the chance to re-record it.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Story

My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Story
Greg Donahue’s The Minuteman, tells the story of one of Newark’s native sons; ex-prizefighter and longtime Zwillman enforcer Sidney Abramowitz, a.k.a. Nat Arno, who took over leadership of the Minutemen in 1934 and made it his personal business to put an end to what he saw as the Bund’s “anti-American” activities. For six years, Arno and his crew of vigilantes battled Newark’s Nazis at every turn. The Minuteman is a story of the ethics of violence in the face of fascism; a forgotten legacy that is as relevant now as it was nearly a hundred years ago.

Story
On Christmas Eve, 1818, in a small Austrian village, a local Catholic priest and a church organist composed a Christmas carol that changed the course of holiday music forever. Exactly two hundred years later, it’s not the holiday season until you’ve heard “Silent Night” in the car, at the store and on TV – all in the same day.
In Jingle Bell Pop, John Seabrook, acclaimed author of The Song Machine, takes us deep inside the holiday music business. We go behind the scenes to meet some of the producers, songwriters and recording artists responsible for the timeless tunes we hear on repeat between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year.

Harriet Tubman is one of the giants of American history - a fearless visionary who led scores of her fellow slaves to freedom and battled courageously behind enemy lines during the Civil War. And yet in the century since her death, next to nothing has been written about this extraordinary woman aside from juvenile biographies. The truth about Harriet Tubman has become lost inside a legend woven of racial and gender stereotypes.

I guess there’s a reason it’s free
Honestly, reading these positive reviews, I have to wonder if they heard the same book. Predictable, formulaic. Blessedly short. You get the feeling this writer can write but didn’t want to waste his best material on a free short story. Overall exceedingly meh.
Also, let's just say his mother character acts in a way NO MOTHER would. You've twice been scared by something that happens to your newborn baby, resulting in baby spending an extended period in the hospital and you still take it back to a house where this stuff is going on? Ridiculous. Nothing new here, nothing inventive, nothing entertaining. It's literally astounding to me to see these positive comments about it.

bleh.
Lullaby was the definition of average when it comes to horror. from the very first minute to the last, it was riddled with every cliche imaginable. I truly don't believe there is an ounce of originality in this entire story. is it bad? no, not really. But it's certainly not scary. I think the trouble is that its trying to hard to be a good haunted house story but doesn't put in the time required to build a sense of dread. the entire thing clocks in at 37 minutes. for a reading that short, it has to be an original horror story, or at least one from a unique perspective, in order to be good. but this is just taking every horror story you've ever heard and condensing it to such a short length that it's removed of all tension, character development or sense of place. it just starts and then as soon as it's starting to build it's already done. not a bad listen but completely unremarkable and non memorable

Reminds me of a short story you are made to read in school. Supposed meaning you’d have to write a report on but falls short on being interesting. The narrator has a soothing interesting voice. That’s the best part.
