Publisher's Summary

In a desperate fight against insurmountable odds, mankind’s only hope is a lifer Marine with a violent past he can barely remember and a penchant for picking fights he shouldn’t win.

Ambushed behind enemy lines and left for dead along with a handful of privates so green they actually respect his authority, Lance Cpl. Lucky Lee Savage has to master his inner demons, manage the ambitions of his foul-mouthed AI, and figure out what is tearing a hole in the fabric of space-time before everything goes tits up.

As alien races arrive and the dynamic of the universe shifts, the original conspirators among mankind’s ranks prepare to turn the tide of change back in their favor. And they have everything they need right inside Lucky’s head.

With the conspiracy now fully in power, Lucky and crew turn into fugitives within the Empire. As an ancient enemy closes in on humankind, one last desperate gamble is their only chance at survival - if it isn't too late already. Luck may not be on their side this time.

Absolutely unreadable.

I never abandon a book unfinished, no matter how bad. Untill now, that is. The writing is atrocious. Action packed, but completely nonsensical. The heros stagger from one poorly thought out scene to the next without any sense of purpose. The writer can't seem to remember the basics of his characters. In one chapter it's important to protect the scientist / spy because she lacks self healing nano tech. A few chapters later she's shrugging off mortal wounds and acting like a cross between James Bond and the Terminator thanks to her nano tech. The action is unbelievable, the characters are uninteresting, rudimentary sketches, and the plot becomes more stultifying the deeper you read. This book reads like the ideas for a particularly bad first person shooter game.

So cumbersome

The narrator gives the impression of an sixties news broadcast. The story line is incredibly cumbersome. I fast forwarded to get to the interesting bits. Too much hassle to get a bit of enjoyment.

Good Story

The Narrator ruins a good book. Very confusing on who is speaking. The plot really drags, you want the book to move on

Worth it

It takes a little bit to get the ball rolling, but is overall worth listening to.

Up Date: Story concept is sound, but...

I did not like the development of this story, but liked the concept. First, the story, to me, was very confusing as it didn't seem to flow very well. The author's thoughts seemed to be "scattered" and liked direction at various points.

Several times I started to quit listening to it, then changed my mind. I still haven't finished the book, and may not, unless it starts making more sense to me.

I still do not like the development of the story, and wasn't going to buy another book...BUT, oddly as I listened to the end of the book, it transitioned into the next book for free, so I listened again, albeit, still not good. Then at the end of the second book, it transition into the third book, again for free. So I listened to this one also...one credit three books, and so based on this I would give an extra half star...but I am still frustrated with the story!
