Publisher's summary

Private investigators Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews thought they'd put Darius Baker's troubles to rest - then his recently discovered son ropes him into a hemp farm investment with his college buddies. When a beloved Charleston professor - and potential investor - is murdered, Liz and Nate discover Darius keeps the PIs on speed dial.

A shocking number of people had reasons to want the genteel, bow tie wearing, tea-drinking professor dead. Was it one of his many girlfriends or a disgruntled student? Or perhaps Murray was killed because his failure to invest meant the hemp farm trio's dreams were going up in smoke?

Though Liz's long-dead best friend, Colleen, warns her the stakes are far higher than Liz imagines, she is hellbent on finding the no-good killer among the bevy of suspects. But will the price of justice be more than Liz can bear?

Take a virtual vacation to Charleston in Susan M. Boyer's latest Southern charmer, Lowcountry Boondoggle. It's a trip you don't want to miss.

Painfully Bad

The story has gaps and several parts are unbelievable not including the goofy ghost. The dialogue is trite and straight out of a 1930s movie about southerners. Many eye rolls while listening. The characters are stereotyped and unlikeable.
The narration is awful. Voice inflections are bad making every sentence sound like a question. She pauses after every 3-4 words in a sentence to create an affected southern accent which was maddening. I am southern, we do not talk like that.

Cupcake wonderful!

In “Lowcountry Boondoggle” Susan M. Boyer has spent time lavishing character detail on each of the main series characters as if it was icing on a cupcake. The mystery is no less complex than any of the other books in the series but it isn’t really the central driver. Boyer’s craft sparkles as she weaves the mystery, in a comparatively minimal way, throughout the book still managing to leave nothing out and delivering a satisfying read. “Lowcountry Boondoggle” is definitely a stand-alone book but will, I think, be more enjoyable if read after other books in the series. As I understand it, following this book there will be a short story or novella and then the author is taking a break before returning to the world of Liz Talbot. That information made the generous hand the author has given to her characters all the more logical and, for those of us who await each new book, a kindness. In these stressful times, “Lowcountry Boondoggle” has just enough cake and the perfect amount of love.

Liz and Nate's Most Exciting Adventure Yet!

Southern Sleuth, Liz Talbot, and her husband Nate are back on the job! When a local college professor is found dead in his home after being poisoned, P.I. duo Liz and Nate have to sort through an ever-growing list of suspects. Was it a family member? A student? A scorned lover? Or maybe Brantley Miller- long-lost son of TV celebrity Darius Baker, who has a suspicious past? And who caused the explosion that destroyed the professor's house, taking all the evidence with it? Liz and Nate work tirelessly and employ all of their old tricks (and maybe even some new ones) to put the pieces of this unusual case together. And of course, no Liz Talbot story would be complete without her colorful cast of family members and local Stella Maris residents being up to all sorts of shenanigans!

Lowcountry Boondoggle will keep you on the edge of your seat and you won't be able to stop listening! You will laugh, tear up (maybe just a little), and dream of your next food-filled vacation to the Lowcountry. This latest installment in the series will leave you wanting more and wondering what will come from some potentially life-changing events for Talbot family. The wonderful narration of this book by Loretta Rawlins really brings the story to life! I can't recommend the entire series highly enough. So clear your calendar and dive into Liz's world!

Susan M. Boyer's Liz Talbot Mystery series is smart, beautifully-written, and compelling. In each installment of this entertaining series, she takes you on an adventure through the incredible town of Charleston and (fictional) island of Stella Maris. Clues are dropped throughout the story, but Boyer cleverly distracts you with a cast of shady suspects, eccentric locals, and Liz's zany, but loving family. She keeps you in comfortable suspense until the very end when you finally reveal "whodunit"!

Love this series. Can't wait for the next book.

I love Loretta Rawlins as narrator. I hope that never changes. As I said in the title, I love this series. I enjoy the relationship between Liz and Nate and Liz and her family. She's also a very good investigator, she's meticulous and some what of a worry wort. Thank you Susan M. Boyer for such an entertaining series.

Lowcountry Boondoggle is an entertaining cozy mystery with an interesting plot. The story is well written and the characters are engaging. The only problem I have with this book is that Liz can be very long winded when she is trying to explain something. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to other cozy mystery series.

Narrator

Didn't care for the narrator's voice. Too high pitched. Ugh. Have listened to other Susan Moyers books & liked them. I won't be listening to Rawlins again .

Entertaining

This was a continuation from the previous book, Lowcountry Boomerang, in that it had several of the same characters. Along with the investigation into the death of a professor, the family dynamics of Liz Talbot's family are sooo funny. Always an enjoyable read that has a lot to offer - mystery, laughs and unexpected twists. So glad I found this author.
