Publisher's summary

Leargan Tegran, Captain of Greenwald's personal guard, is an honorable knight. When his king commands him to wed Senior King's Rider Ansley Fraser, he intends to follow orders; even as he knows nothing of the girl. Not to mention her blasted wolf bondmate, Ali, who barely lets him near her.

Ansley has been in love with Leargan for turns, but marrying him out of duty doesn't sit well with her. She'll fight the match tooth and nail; no matter how much she craves to be in his arms and in his bed.

The sudden appearance of Avril, a mysterious girl on the run, creates suspicions of powerful magic and evil lurking on the horizon. Dangers lead to a fight Leargan's not prepared for.

With the Province threatened, will duty interfere with Leargan's orders or entwine him and Ansley regardless of their desires?

Sweet Romance with a little bit of magic

This is the 2nd book in the series, but for the most part can be read as a standalone. There are characters from the first book though, so you may want to read that book first anyway. I listened to the audiobook version, and really enjoyed it! Good narration, and the narrator has a great accent that fits the setting and tone of this story. This book focuses a lot on the romances between the characters, which I don't mind, but I also would've loved more adventure! This series takes place in sort of medieval setting, and follows the love lives of some of the lords, ladies, and guards men. I usually don't enjoy those types of stories because of the arranged marriages, the men bedding whoever, and the women being in subservient positions to the men, but I enjoy this series. There's also a great magical aspect to the characters, which I find interesting to read about. In this book, there are 2 main romance stories, and I enjoyed both couples. Leargan and Ansley are the first couple, and are the main romance of the book. I enjoyed their connection, and they are cute together. Leargan is head guards man for Cera and Jorrin, and Ansley is a message rider for the King, or something along those lines. Ansley has loved Leargan for ages, but Leargan hasn't really been paying attention until some outside forces put their noses in his business. It's a good and bad thing for Leargan. These two have some heat between them! I do feel like their story followed a bit too closely to the story of the couple from book one, Cera and Jorrin. There's a similar issue that happens to each couple, and some of the things that Cera and Jorrin said, Leargan and Ansley also said, so it felt like I was reading about the same couple. The men are clueless, and the women know how to hold a grudge! The ladies do get mean when they are angry! I would've liked a bit more difference Leargan and Ansley's story, but the story is still entertaining. I prefer Cera and Jorrin's bond a little more, but Leargan and Ansley are still a sweet couple, and they have a great connection. I was hoping Ansley would have a little more warrior spirit to her, but I liked her well enough. Leargan is a good guy, and I liked him too. The next couple focuses on a woman that was forced to marry at age 14 to a man much older than herself, and he severely mistreated her. She finally escapes, and is found by Ansley and brought to Cera and Jorrin's house where one of the guards men feels a deep connection with the lady. He has had vision of her since he was a young boy. Their romance is really sweet, and I loved that he dreamed of her before they met. I would've loved to have a little bit more for them in the end, but the story is a good one. Her husband is the main baddie in this book, which was an interesting storyline, but I wish there was something a little more going on besides just him. It all seemed a bit too easy. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and look forward to more in this series!

Even better than the first book!

I truly enjoyed this audiobook. It has a lot of emotional happenings that made me really feel for the characters. The characters are well developed, believable, and unique. I had moments when I wanted to shake the main female character and make her see sense, but that just added to my enjoyment of the book.

I can't begin to choose a favorite character or moment from the book. Everything that happened led to the next thing smoothly. I knew where it would end up but was kept guessing on exactly how and when it would get there. I was very pleased with the ending and look forward to listening to the next book in the series.
