Publisher's summary

The secret to parenting success is out! Children need love, parents need respect. It's as simple and complex as that.

Bestselling author Dr. Emerson Eggerichs has studied family dynamics for more than 30 years, earning a Ph.D. in Child and Family Ecology. As a senior pastor for nearly two decades, he builds on a foundation of strong biblical principles, walking the listener through an entirely new way to approach the family dynamic.

When frustrated with an unresponsive child, a parent doesn’t declare, “You don’t love me.” Instead, the parent asserts, “You are being disrespectful right now.” A parent needs to feel respected, especially during conflicts. When upset a child does not whine, “You don’t respect me.” Instead, a child pouts, “You don’t love me.” A child needs to feel loved, especially during disputes. But here’s the rub: An unloved child or teen negatively reacts in a way that feels disrespectful to a parent. A disrespected parent negatively reacts in a way that feels unloving to the child. This dynamic gives birth to the FAMILY CRAZY CYCLE.

This book teaches you to:

  • See love and respect as basic family needs
  • Stop the Family Crazy Cycle of conflict
  • Parent in six biblical ways that energize your children
  • Discipline defiance and overlook childishness
  • Be the mature one since parenting is for adults only
  • Become a loving parent in God's eyes, regardless of a child's response

Based on what the Bible says about parenting, this book focuses on achieving healthy family dynamics. Dr. Eggerichs offers unprecedented transparency from his wife and three adult children, who share wisdom gained from the good, the bad, and the ugly of their family life. It's all here in this eye-opening exploration of the biblical principles on parenting that can help make families function as God intended.

Must read for every parent and teacher

I loved the concepts and principles presented in this book. Read a little fast but could easily back up and listen again. I recommend this book to all parents and teachers. It's never too late to change the way we parent. Excellent book.

I’m not overly churchy- but this was still a wonderful book full of valuable info.

I grew up Christian and share a lot of these values. However I do not go to church anymore, but I do pray and believe in God.

I love the values and morals and references in this book, back to the Bible. Even if you’re not really churchy, you will take quality info from this. Especially in a world full of parents so willing to judge everything we do as parents.

We are all doing the best we can and give ourselves some grace and allow ourselves to grow to be better. No shame. I think this is a wonderful book and I’ve already recommended it to several others.

I’ve also read his book Love and Respect for couple and that’s amazing as well.

Life Enhancement!

I have been applying Love and Respect in my marriage for years since first attending a conference put on in our church with great outcomes! I can't say enough how much this work has helped me see better ways to approach the difficult years ahead as our daughter moves into the teens. Taking the eye off of her and putting it on Jesus!

First parenting book I have finished!

I have a hard time finishing non-fiction audible so I listened at 1.5x speed which helped a lot! I feel like this book touched on my pain points as a mom. I power struggle with my son a lot. I felt that this book gave me some ideas to help him feel loved and less defensive. I liked it so much that my husband listened to it as well. It’s so nice for us to have advice we are both excited about. Thanks for a fantastic book!

It is very religious. I am Christian but I would consider it a different “brand” of Christianity than I am used to, but that was one of the best parts. I learned things about myself and Christianity having it taught in a different style than I am used to. This book has the potential to be life changing for me. Thank you again!

favorite parenting books so far! Young performer

I always prefer a book recorded by the author as there is much more feeling and a better overall performance. although this performer was not bad he sounded young which made it hard to listen to him as being wise as the author actually is a much older.

Amazing book !

I love how practical this book is. The recommendations are beneficial to those who have began their family, those who haven't started a family yet, and those who are single. You can apply G.U.I.D.E.S. to not only raising children, but to business, friendships, relationships, etc. It's such a powerful book. I'd recommend to anyone and everyone who is seeking to grow in becoming a more loving and respectful individual.
