Publisher's Summary

Joel Manby from Undercover Boss shares how leaders at every level can harness the meaning of love, the verb, and improve their culture and bottom line.

Before Joel Manby won the respect of America with his appearance on the CBS reality TV series Undercover Boss, he was a highly successful corporate executive. After the show aired, many of the 18 million viewers wrote to him about the profound impact of his servant leadership. In Love Works, Joel Manby introduces us to the power of agape love in the workplace.

After years of leading thousands of men and women, Manby has proven that leading with love is effective, even in a business environment. Manby challenges leaders to allow integrity and faith to guide leadership decisions, outlining seven time-proven principles that break down the natural walls within corporate cultures, empowering managers and employees, disarming difficulties, and cultivating an atmosphere that builds long-term success. Manby also leverages the undeniable truth that love builds healthy relationships at home---why not use the same behavior to build healthy relationships at work?

Love Works is a great book!

What did you love best about Love Works?

I loved the authenticity of the author, Joel Manby.

What did you like best about this story?

The whole message: His honesty about how his job at SAAB was ruining his marriage and family and how he had to find another way. He seems very likable, and admitted he didn't know it all, and that he learned from the Herschend family that "love works" in leadership. Who wouldn't want to work for a company like that?

What does Joel Manby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Authenticity in his voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have, but didn't have the time. I listened during my work commute.

Any additional comments?

I would read other books by Joel Manby.

Starts out slow but is full of good information

alnost quit listening because it was more of a personal testimony than defined principles to learn. There are great points in the book and the later half is much more insightful than the first.

Be vs Do: mindset vs lifestyle

The book emphasis the soft skills needed to truly great an exceptional leadership example, challenging the notion of data and performance at all costs. Joel Manby effectively creates a narrative that highlights his growth in business that paralleled his growth as a husband, father, and man.

When he gave the guy a second chance after being fired.

Any additional comments?

Finished another book. It was a retread. I went through it a few years back and felt like it was do for another listen. It is a leadership book about leading with heart. There is a lot of great wisdom in the book. =The author is no life time do as I say book writer. Joel Manby is a proven leader and mentor for those he is involved with. rarely does a leader like Joel come along and make such differences in the lives of their employees.

Disappointed

There are a couple of useful bits in this book. Unfortunately it's mostly a love letter to Jesus, the Bible, and his for me boss. If you are looking for a book with helpful tips about being a good leader there isn't much here.

Can't wait to see how "Love Works" in my new place

It is always refreshing to hear how applying biblical principles will work in any organization when applying with a true heart and integrity instead of trying to make things happen for selfish purposes. Truly looking forward to applying the same principles in this next organization that I'm participating with. Thank you Joel for sharing your heart through real life struggles and joys with the hope of getting others to be able to apply the same principles for the temporal/eternal benefit of those who we work with as well as our own. Thank you again. Dave
