Publisher's Summary

Michael,

Twenty years ago, I spent our wedding night alone and was given a letter outlining the day and time of our divorce. Now it's our daughter's wedding day, and your smile tells me you're here for more than to walk her down the aisle.

When we met, it was the summer of Shania Twain, the color of mocha iced lipstick, sand and sable perfume, and the summer I became a 17-year-old mother. But time has changed me.

So tell me, why are you back?

Jill

Story of heartbreak

Phew. I loved Michael. Then I hated Michael. More than hated Michael... scum of the earth really. Then he redeemed himself mostly. But, I just despised him so much that I didn’t love him in the end.
Such a story of heartbreak.

Gina has done it again!

Michael,

Twenty years ago, I spent our wedding night alone and was given a letter outlining the day and time of our divorce. Now it's our daughter's wedding day, and your smile tells me you're here for more than to walk her down the aisle.

When we met, it was the summer of Shania Twain, the color of Mocha Iced lipstick, Sand & Sable perfume, and the summer I became a seventeen-year-old mother. But time has changed me.

Love, Michael is a standalone based on real-life events of the author.

I simply loved this story. It made me feel a world wind of emotions. I fell in love with Gina's books withe the Secrets trilogy but this book is beyond words. It is so heartfelt and I am so glad that Gina narrated it herself. If you love a great book look no further! Gina you have out done yourself!

emotional wringer

Jill's story broke my heart, mended it, to break it again, what an emotional wringer. I spent most of the book being mad at Michael and I am not sure I got to like him fully even at the end. It resonates with me because of my life experiences, I cried a few times, I mean really cried, so be prepared to have tissues handy. Jill is a beautiful soul and I am glad she finally got her HEA, it took me by surprise with whom, but she paid dearly.
The parallel running of the 'now' and the 'then' was interesting, it bugged me at the beginning but as I listened it made sense to do it that way. The advices at the end hit home, I am on a path to learn forgiveness and it is hard.
Thank you Ms. Jones. Your voice is a pleasure to listen to and loved the variations for each character, especially the one you gave Michael.

Heart touching, with unexpected HEA

At seventeen, Jill thought she knew what love was, only to be heartbroken and left alone. All because she wanted to love the father of her daughter and to be a good wife. Twenty years later, her daughter is about to be married and her heartbreaker is back. Michael. He's back and wants another chance. But Jill is no longer a seventeen-year-old girl with lovesick eyes. Jill says that she had learned that wanting love and romance in a relationship is distasteful and a waste. So why would go back?

Michael does his best to win Jill's heart and begs for forgiveness. The man who wants her love now is nothing like the young Michael. A man who was selfish, cruel and considered them to be an arrangement for getting Jill pregnant when she was seventeen. Now, he fills her days with flowers, Love, Michael notes, and all the things she wanted to do when they were married. Though she holds her breath, Jill gives into Michael and prays she is doing the right thing.

This story will break your heart, make you laugh and scream at everyone. Michael and Jill's love story is one emotional rollercoaster, taking you through their ups and downs.

The beginning of this audible is an author's note, stating this story is based on real-life events of her own. She is also the narrator and did an amazing job. I could feel her hurt, anger, distrust and the love she had for Michael. A must listen.

Emotional Roller Coaster

This is a touching story that takes you on an emotional roller coaster. I've had a tough time thinking about my review because it's well written but I have some issues. I love Monica and Jill's relationship but Jill was too much of a doormat. I kept wanting her to stand up for herself.

I enjoyed seeing both past and present but some events in the past made it very difficult for me to be fully invested in one of the characters in the present.
The ending wasn't what I was nervous would be coming nor was it what I hoped for (even knowing it wasn't happening lol) but I thought it was a great ending. It was touching and really gave good closure.

The audio is narrated by the author and she did a perfect job. She really delivered on the emotions and heartache.

Even though I have mixed feelings, I do recommend this. It's a well written story filled with heartache, forgiveness, and carrying on. The fantastic narration and ability to evoke an emotional response even though I don't love the characters are why I give it 4 stars and recommend it.

The Audio Version of This Book Totally Rocked

This is one of those books you savor; meaning while you read/listen, you don't want it to end so soon so you read/listen in bits and pieces to absorb the story, invest in it, and like a fine wine - you don't gulp it down, you sip and savor and wish the glass doesn't go empty.

This grabbed my attention when the author said it was based on actual events from her life. I find it intriguing as to what she went through; I ached for her, and then later in the story, I ached for Michael. Totally loved it and I think she did a fine job narrating.

Great audio!

Heartbreaking reality check of my life

Loved the past and present bringing the story together. I laughed, cried, and had to take emotional breaks. The reality of this story runs parallel to my own life. I felt Jill as a young girl, all she ever wanted was to be a good wife and mother. And what was the harm in that?Everything when the other doesn’t comprehend. The characters are believable as with Jill’s pain. This story will hit home to many and maybe some of us will get their HEA. Jill and Michael’s story will stay forever in your heart.

Gina was amazing with her narration. How tough it was to read some of these scenes. I felt her emotions in her own story.

Very emotional story

Amazing story, you will laugh, cry be happy and sad but you will not want to stop listening. I like how the story goes from the past to the present chapter after chapter. Even though I disagreed with some of the main characters decisions everything was pulled together at the end. The author did a great job as the narrator also, keeping you interested and wanting to continue listening. Highly recommended.

This one will stir up every emotion.

I think one of the most difficult parts of being an adult reader of books with teenage characters is forgetting all my experience, my gained wisdom, and my emotional intelligence and going back to being a teenager when I had none of these things, but thought I did. Sometimes it's really hard to be in the mind of a teenager and not get frustrated and yell at her. With this book I had to turn off adult me for the "Then" chapters and then turn it back on for the "Now" and "After" chapters.

Now, where to start with this review. There were many times I didn't think I could get through the book. I was upset, angry, frustrated, sad, happy, laughing. It was a total emotional roller coaster. What made it easier to get through was that it was based on real events of the author AND that the author was the one narrating. Honestly, I don't know how she got through parts of this book with such a strong voice. She did an amazing job.

We get back and forth chapters between young Jill and her relationship with Michael, and the 20-years-older Jill. Generally I am not a fan of switching, especially when I have to shut off a part of me to go back and forth, but it worked. And it really needed to be done in a back and forth way. I don't think the story could have worked chronologically in a "beginning to end linear" way.

It's hard to summarize this book without giving spoilers, but we have the perspectives of teenage Jill who is in teenage love with her older brother's friend and the older Jill who has been there, done that, and has the t-shirt. We have younger Michael who is not as invested as teenage Jill, and older, wiser, regretful Michael who would do anything to change the past. The story is told by Jill from her perspective of events, both past and present.

The only thing I found a bit lacking in the book was the "whys" of Michael. We get a sentence, or two, about a generic why, but we never really find out why he did what he did, or much about the 20 years he was gone. The more I thought about the story, I realize told from Jill's point of view, it really didn't matter the why because it was really about her, but as a reader it kinda bothered me especially when he came back.

This book is not a traditional romance, but it is a love story.

broke my heart

I have to say, this book broke my heart. I don't know. It's so raw and real. This was a pretty rough listen for me, as I followed along with Jill and Michael's story, their daughter's wedding day. Just this book was so emotional. I applaud the author for being able to write such an obviously personal book, and I hope it was cathartic for her.

Emotional

This book had me all emotional and I had to stop a couple of times before I could get to the end. I did have a hard time with Michael just walking back in after all those years. He was a selfish jerk but to be fair he was a teenager. There was heartbreak with real life situations that kept this book raw. Over all good book.

Reviewed for Audiobook Obsession

At the beginning of this audible book the author/narrator mentions that this story was inspired by life events. If they are hers or someone she knows I’m not sure, but I do have to say I admire her courage, bravery for writing this story. It is heartfelt, heartbreaking, tragic, but with some hilarious fun mixed in. Life is a fickle thing, it can lead us down so many paths, good or bad, we can’t always make the decision we want especially when there are others depending on us, and sometimes others make the decision for you and sometimes you get a second chance to right the wrongs, and get the HEA you deserve.
Gina both wrote and narrated this book herself, I am impressed with both.
