Publisher's Summary

To the rest of the world, he was the little boy who went missing on the Fourth of July.

To me, he was everything.

My heart hasn't been the same since he disappeared, but I've learned to build my life around that missing piece.

Twenty-two years later, the last thing I expect is for that missing piece to come back.

His name is Oliver Lynch, and this is his story.

This is our story.

Disappointed

The plot idea was great, execution of the plot was disappointing. The lack of introspection of the main character’s experience of his ordeal and the emphasis instead of his friend’s experience was a disconnect that infiltrated the entire book.

Disappointed (small spoilers)

I was so excited to listen to this after the first book Still Beating. It starts out grabbing your attention and just goes down hill from there. Oliver and Sidney sound like teenagers, when they are 30. Oliver acts like he’s from another planet. He was abducted at 10, he would have already known how to speak normally and socialize. And how did he learn to cook when he says he lived on sandwiches? It all confusing and ridiculous and then a very dark sensitive subject is shoved in and doesn’t fit. It’s all too much. I had a hard time finishing it. The narrators didn’t help.
Sad to say, but save your credit.

LOTUS FOREVER

This book!!
Jennifer Hartmann brings all the feels with every story she releases, Lotus is no different. This book is deep, emotional and beautiful.

Oliver was taken as a young boy. After resurfacing after 22 years, it’s a new world and the people he once knew are different. Sydney isn’t the little girl next door anymore but a beautiful woman. She’s the one who can help him remember.

A gripping story, this book had my emotions all over the place. Does contain some subject matter that can be trigging.

Narration was perfect! Dual narration.

5 stars!!

Amazing!!

This was the first book for me by a Jennifer Hartmann… And I absolutely loved it! This story has everything. Love, heartbreak… and just the right amount of angst to keep you hooked from the very beginning. There are some tough subjects throughout the story but I felt like the author did an amazing job of giving you just enough info to connect with each character. A piece of my heart will always love Oliver and Sydney. And all of the side characters in the story are wonderfully fleshed out and brought to life. This was just amazing from beginning to end! Loved it!!

Lotus

Sydney and Oliver

This story was great and difficult to listen to, but if you read Still Beating by this author then you know she isn't afraid of the deep emotion or subjects.

I loved that they were childhood best friends.
And I really liked the way we get Oliver back, yes we get a lot of the dark parts of what he went through but mostly its was his healing and how he navigates life after.

Sydney is who I wondered the most about she hide it well, but she is traumatized too.
They heal together.
Gabe I wanted to shake a few times, I know he was just being the protective older brother but he annoyed me too.

Great narration it was perfect for this book.

Disappointing 😞

I love this author's writing but this one is my least favourite book.

I had to stop start it many times, not so much because of the subject matter but it upset me how Sydney reacted and treated Oliver; and it was so repetitive.

Poor Oliver had been through such a gruelling ordeal and had come out pretty sane under the circumstances; and it was if Sydney had gone through a similar ordeal and was blaming Oliver for all her woes! She was just so whiny! Ugh!

The villain was a piece of work and  I couldn't get my head around why no one had noticed what an evil human being he was!

All I can say is thank goodness for the red bicycle and Oliver's creative abilities!
