The value of life!

I enjoyed the story written by Amy Shojai. The story was filled with good details, mystery, intrigue, and plenty of twist and turns throughout the story. I love that she included dogs in her story that are trained to find people. This was a well thought of story and I enjoyed it immensely.

I was surprised that the author did the narration as well. She did a magnificent job with the telling of her story. I enjoyed the characters accents, especially Pam's voice. I was able to recognize each character with the distinguishing accents she gave them. She brought this story to life and I would love to hear more stories that she's narrated, even if they're not her own. I received this audio in exchange for an honest review.

Thriller with pets.

Would you listen to Lost and Found again? Why?

Yes. I enjoyed the story a lot. I loved the idea of it and how the different POVs happened. Shojai did a great job on character voices.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. It's a scary concept and kept me going to the end.

What about Amy Shojai’s performance did you like?

She was great. Lots of different character voices and POV.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. It lasts longer so if you did it would be too long but it was a good story.

Any additional comments?

My favorite character was Shadow. I loved his POV. I will look for more books by Shojai.

Irritating

It might have been good, but I couldn't finish the first chapter because of the irritating narration. There is also an issue with the statement of North Texas weather.

Animal Lover <br />

loved the book. enjoyed the animals as we are crazy about our pets and they are trained by my husband who was a dog handler for the prison service when he was young. I have a special interest in autistic children and the insight in this book was great

Wanted to love it because I'm a dog nut but...

My problem with the audio portion was the voices. The accent or voice change for each character that the narrator used always sounded like elderly people. The narration was distracting. My problem with the story is the responses/interactions between characters just didn't feel like real people would react and say the things the author directed.

great thriller ... dog lover or not

Any additional comments?

I have recieved this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

I am very suprised that this audiobook has been hiddden away, I have never heard of the author before.I can see that she has written lots of non fiction books about dog and cat behavior .
So it's rather unusaul that she is able to write such a competant thriller(fiction). Obviously the backgroud story is her field of expertise, and this is very clear throughout the book.

Even if you are not interested in dogs ,or their behavior, this one has a lot more to offer, suspense throughout and an inventive and interesteing plot.

I was a bit dubious when I realised it was the author herself that narrates this book( only because of previous experience- its rare that the author does a good job of narrating books.) but Amy actually does a good job, my only (slight) critisism would be that most of her male voices sound old and croaky, but not so bad that it is annoying or a distraction.
Good Job :-)

Lost and Found

Any additional comments?

I read the book when it first came out so I didn't know if I would like this version. It turned out I certainly did. Hearing the author read her book gave it a whole new dimension. It is a great story and I am looking forward to the next one. A problem I didn't expect is whether to read it or listen to it. I may do both.

You don't want to miss this book!

If you could sum up Lost and Found in three words, what would they be?

Tense, Edgy, Intense.

Any additional comments?

To be perfectly honest, when I first read the plot summary for this book, I thought it was going to be a light/cozy mystery. I had no idea what I was in store for. This book is intense. There is a lot going on between the missing autistic boy, the sister (April) getting mixed up with the miracle cure people, September's past, dog training and tracking, and characters being shot and killed. There are SO many people who are killed, that sometimes you have to stop and think back "now who was that and how did they fit in?" and sometimes a character is brought back in and you have to think the same; nothing in this book is done on accident, Amy Shojai is extremely clever. For as many sub-plots as there are, I was never confused or overwhelmed. This is a very fast paced book, and there are a lot of very important small details that keep the reader paying close attention. It would almost be worthwhile to go back and re-read to see all the red herrings and easter eggs that I missed. I did see the final twist at the end, as she had built it up nicely with the descriptors, but again, you just have to pay close attention! It could be easy to see the different scenes in this book and ask how they might have anything to do with the storyline, but then right about as you're forgetting ti happened, BAM! Amy slaps you in the face with the reason why she put in these extra anecdotes. It makes for a much more fulfilling storyline to see the effects, rather than just be told that it's happening. I know I'm being vague, but I don't want to give away any spoilers.
I would've given this book a solid 5 stars, but it drove me crazy that the author tells us that September's husband and dog died at the hands of a stalker and that's why she has some social anxiety (and likes to over-lock her doors) but we never really hear any details and it's just glossed over. I feel like if you're going to bring up the past, it's important to flesh it out in order for your readers to understand the character's motivations just a bit better instead of being hinted at and glossed over. That's just frustrating!

I received a free audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review; this in no way affects my opinions, although I am grateful for the opportunity to listen and review.

Amy Shojai both wrote and narrated this audiobook, and this is the first author-narrated book I've listened to. I think it's kind of special. The quality of this audiobook wasn't as great as some of the other's I've listened to, as there were a few pops, cracks, and some light static, and it was a bit tinny. It didn't distract from my experience at all, and I really only noticed it in the first couple minutes, and then I got used to it. She does a great job of differentiating voices in dialogue so that the listener isn't confused about who's currently doing the talking. I really enjoyed listening to this book, and I couldn't get enough. I listened to this book in just a few sittings because it was so intense and I just couldn't put it down!

Very disappointing!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I cant think of an audience for this book.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Churchill's Secretary

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amy Shojai?

Someone with a smoother delivery. I don't think I have heard her before, but she was very choppy. Ms. Shojar needs to work on her male voices. They seemed forced and fakey.

What character would you cut from Lost and Found?

The characters were not well rounded. Their pasts were not well fleshed out. I think the idea was to make them part of a mystery. Instead it seemed disjointed. The best character was the dog.

Any additional comments?

I gave this book every chance to become interesting. Finally I skipped 10 chapters to see if it got better-it didn't. I even played it at double speed--nothing worked. I will be asking for a refund.I listen to all genres of Audible books. I really like most of them and sometimes think they are just OK, or perhaps too simplistic, but this was the rare book with few redeeming qualities.
