Publisher's Summary

You know that squirmy sensation in your gut when you have no idea what you're doing and you're about to screw everything up?

Yeah, that feeling.

I thought I was a good judge of character, but recent events proved me very wrong. Now, in a brilliant demonstration of my newfound caution, I'm putting all my faith in a demon - a demon who's tried to kill me before. The squirmy feeling is making sense, right?

Unfortunately, I don't have any other options. Ezra's time is almost up, which means I need answers and I need them fast. So it's time to toughen up, pack my gear, and find me one of the most illegal, reviled, and scarce mythics out there: a demon-mage summoner.

And all I have to do is follow a demon's instructions on where to look. How could that go wrong?

Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen, available summer 2020.

Tori is not my favorite character but...

This author is one of my absolute favorites but I cannot stand Tori. she is like a character from Shameless. she continues to make horrible choices and then has the audacity to be surprised when things go bad because of them. Not to mention she wants to be included in the magical world so bad but when it comes to actually making an effort to know more she acts like shes above it. Shes really judgmental and jealous when it comes to other women and is downright nosey (and pushy) when it comes to Kai and his family affairs. I continue to listen to the series because I do love alllll the other characters and I'm too deeply entrenched in the drama to quit now, how ever I'm really glad there is only one more book in her POV because I don't think I can handle her immaturity much longer. Rant over.

Dragging on this story line a little too long

I was really looking forward to this book, to see what would become of Ezra. This book seemed shorter than most, didnt seem to have the depth of the others and gave no real satisfaction at the end. We've had 2 books now essentially with the same driving conflict. It's time to wrap it up so we can move on to something else.

great series

I love the entire series. though we could have done without the male voice for Ezra with his thoughts. it was out of place and just didn't fit

Another Great Installment!!

I loved this book don't get me wrong, but I found Ezra's POV severely disappointing. I was SO excited thinking I'd get to see the events Robin and Ezra shared from Ezra's POV... I know it makes sense that if this book originally came first, then the author wouldn't want to give away too much... but Ezra's parts were primarily all in his head, and only slightly more than boring. However, this does not mean that Ezra isn't a total badass!! He does a lot of growing in this book, and it shows magnificently in the last few chapters

I continue to feel a lot of nothing towards Tori. I don't dislike her, but I don't totally like her either. While she can also be a badass, she makes a lot of selfish decisions 7 books later, and suffers almost 0 consequences, and experiences minimal growth. Though, I will say I think this book had the most growth for her character yet!

I'm excited to see what comes next. Robin and Zylas are still my two biggest faves, and seeing Tori's storyline really start to clash with Robin's gets me excited for the final books.

Twiggy is so adorable. Can I have him?

The story fits well with the series and all the spin-offs. Personally, I'm not sure how Ezra came to deserve the love interest role. I would have liked it better if it were him from the start. Not really into Tori jumping from friend to friend. Plus he has been such a complete side character the entire story. It just seems forced to push him into this role when we were already past the halfway point. Especially with Tori so hopelessly in love with him as of this was a series long romance.. It would have felt more natural if the Druid was the love interest. If would have seemed more natural. I'm not hating on Ezra as I actually like him as a character. But this is no Bella/Edward love nor a Mercy/Adam type romance.

Again, story was a good fit and begins the work of wrapping things up. Any scene with Twiggy is my favorite.

Narration is on point.

better than other reviews suggest.

I know some people didn't like Ezra's narrator but he did a fine job.

having listened to this book I cannot wait to read the next Robin page installment. I'm really enjoying the interconnected 3 book series.

Come on already!

The author is drawing the Erza problem out to a ridiculous crawl. Nothing is solved...again..another book that progresses the story not at all...andd suddenly Ezra gets his own voice actor. Which would be fine except he makes Ezra sound like a douchey pot head!

It's getting intense!

4.5 stars — I was totally floundering in my reading, just wasn’t able to settle on anything and was getting anxiety about that, you know? So I returned to the Guild Codex Universe, and wow, it worked like a charm! I was immediately sucked in, and basically did anything I could to listen in 2 days. I think I was a bit more distracted though, b/c occasionally I felt like I should have been more emotionally involved in what was going on, but I was staying a bit detached. But I think that has more to do with why I was floundering in the first place than the actual book.

I will admit that I got a bit lost with details in parts of this one. Some of it was a few similar sounding names (one of which I think was mispronounced once, so for a minute I couldn’t figure out what was going on). There were also a few names that were introduced and not explained (like what the Grand Dick called Ezra), and those little things always drive me insane. But then I couldn’t remember if I already knew the answer. I’m definitely going to need a reread when I finally finish. Good thing I’m super excited about that. But I might read this one so I can see how things are spelled you know? I’m kind of a weirdo.

I loved that we got some development and…not closure, but growth with Tori and Justin. That was awesome, I loved that surprising aspect to the story. I was aching for Tori in general trying to figure out her place in the mythic world when she had lost her most powerful artifacts.

I can also say that I can’t imagine this story without having read it in recommended reading order and reading Hunting Fiends first. Otherwise there is so much that would be confusing and surprising! I’m sure it works, but I prefer the recommended way.

As always, I am getting super freaking anxious about the wrap up. Things are getting crazy, and are so much bigger than I was expecting! AHHHHH!!!

Brilliant

What another amazing ride lost talisman and a tequila was.. delving deep into Ezra’s past.. desperately hunting to find something anything to save someone they love, Tori Aaron and Kai face never seen before obstacles that’s even there class of magic may not be enough to concur. Lost talismans and a tequila was jampacked with action for the very first page, to the very last word. Funny, heart filled and fast paste it was a rollercoaster of emotions that meant I couldn’t put it down and finished in one sitting. I can’t wait to see how Tori and her lads journey will end.. this is one of my favourite series ever and I can’t recommend it enough.

It was a slightly slow starter, however when it kicked off.... IT GRIPPED YOU!! I listened to this as I went to bed and there were many nights where this stole my sleep!! I was totally engrossed in it and could not stop. Especially the ending... Loved it and cannot wait for the final installment. Do not hesitate to listen to these books!! 5 Stars and more if it was possible!!

Disappointed

I big fan of Annette Marie and binged read all the books in this series. Unfortunately, I am a bit disappointed with this one. The plot could be resumed in few chapters really...

Cris Dukehart and Teddy Hamilton did a fantastic job :) Love Ezra's voice

Exciting developments. But lacking some quality.

Really good exciting developments and action scenes. The violence and gore seems to increase with each book, which may not be your thing. Also I feel the author is rushing to get this series and the other 2 linked series finished. The first few books she wrote seemed more whole and complete in themselves. But the last are more like dashes to the finishing plot line and just trying to push all the major plot points through. Also I did not enjoy the addition of the male narrator as, to me his voice and acting are quite wrong for Ezra (although Teddy Hamilton is a good narrator elsewhere.) Still, I enjoyed this book and is valuable to see more of the emotional lives of our favourite characters.

Worth the wait for the audio book.

Fun fantastic story, straight into the action that occurs days after the last story. Preparing us for the final book. Well read as usual. Took me a while to get used to Ezra’s voice, but all good after just first chapter.

LOVE!!

So many answers to many questions, I can’t wait for the last book! The performance is great as always, I must admit the voice for Ezra took me by surprise and I needed to get used to it. I would have preferred it not to be a different voice. Love the story as always and what an ending! I can’t wait for the next book and will be sad to see it all end
