Publisher's summary

Winner of the 2012 Kurd-Laßwitz-Preis.

They are just children when they first meet: Charlotte, daughter of the French ambassador, and Hiroshi, a laundress’s son. One day in the playground, Hiroshi declares that he has an idea that will change the world. An idea that will sweep away all differences between rich and poor.

When Hiroshi runs into Charlotte several years later, he is trying to build a brighter future through robotics. Determined to win Charlotte’s love, he resurrects his childhood dream, convinced that he can eradicate world poverty by pushing the limits of technology beyond imagination. But as Hiroshi circles ever closer to realizing his vision, he discovers that his utopian dream may contain the seeds of a nightmare — one that could obliterate life as we know it.

Crisscrossing the globe, from Tokyo to the hallowed halls of MIT to desolate Arctic islands and Buenos Aires and beyond — far beyond — Lord of All Things explores not only technology’s dizzying potential, but also its formidable dangers.

fun listen

Very hard to put down, and many sleepless nights listening. The presentation was excellent, and the initial reason that I purchased this book was because I had heard him read another series. I highly recommend this book.

Well crafted, brilliantly performed.

Only a couple of spots seem to slow where you're suspended and/or waiting for how the plot ties together, other than that, well paced. The performance by the narrator was incredible, covering a wide variety of different ethnicities and accents.

Amazing book!

This storyline was absolutely amazing. I could not stop "reading." The only downside is the narrator's female voices. I contemplated not listening to the book anymore because of them but am so glad I continued! This book keeps you on your toes! (and I got used to the female voices)

deep

It was a snoozer until the middle of the book. A little college and scientific jargon. Hard to keep up until she gets on an island and has to run for their lives. Then it just gets weird. Okay if you are into all that. I couldn't give it a fifth star. Too many questions at the end. Like can it happen again? Stuff like that.

Strange... but believable... in a way

Any additional comments?

This is a strangely good book. I believe the author gets away with unexplainable tangents and some poor secondary characters, but the overall story is very unique. Nick Podehl could read the phone book and I would listen, and I believe he nails this story's narration.

Not bad

kind of a what if story with some random unexplained things. Good but not great.

"Lord Of All Things" captured my attention

Put simply Mr. Eschbach took hold of my attention, as only a few have done. From start to finish, I knew times of beginning to feel bored only to have my attention captivated, again, by unexpected fragments. I have read only a few science-fiction works which ran across the lifespan of core characters. Instead of just focusing on the science and social aspects of the stories themes, he revealed so much of his two major characters, which appeals deeply to my psych background. How can he drew the story to conclusion brought out tears which I had not expected from the start. So then know that he touched me deeper than my love of science fiction, he touched into the parts of me that has dealt with the trauma of peoples' lives.

Very Entertaining

Loved this book, I'm sorry it ended bittersweet but made sense as it was the only possible ending. Many interesting twists to the story that keep you listening.
