Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The unfiltered truth about being a rugby player - from the horsey's mouth.

This book is not just about how I got back on my horse and went clippity-clop all the way to the World Cup final in Japan.

It's the story of how a fat kid who had to live up to the nickname Psycho grew up to play (and party) for over a decade with rugby's greatest pros.

From just about surviving the equivalent of 30 car crashes a game and crooning Adele for team spirit, to extensive field notes on the smell of the Scrum and the fine art of on-pitch relief. Then there's rugby's secret naked wrestling scene and how it was exposed.

In my world, you never know how the ball will bounce....

Amazing storytelling!

I wasn't familiar with Joe Marler besides his impressive playing as an england prop. This story is touchingly raw and honest, but even more, well told and funny. Listening to his voice doing aaalll the accents is hilarious and had me and my husband howling at parts. It feels like spending a night in his company. Awesome read! Highly recommended!

I loved this!

This book was wonderful! Maybe because I was a prop in college I knew what to expect - but this book was exactly what I expected. Disappointed it got so many poor reviews. Joe does a great job reading it too!

Absolute killer

I've always searched for a rugby book that was inspiring and Joe marler killed it. This book made me love the game more, but also look at myself as a person. His honesty of personal hardships is a eye opener, and makes me want to do better for myself, not only as a person but as a player and a dad.

Storytelling that made me laugh out loud.

If you like rugby even a little bit, listen to this book. Joe's stories and voice-overs were often the highlight of my day. Incredibly honest, vulnerable and insightful.

Thanks Joe!

Absolutley loved it.
The audio version was great and being an American I would not have had the same experience had I read it myself.

Changed my mind completely

As a dedicated Welsh fan, I have always disliked Joe Marler. However, after listening to Joe tell his story in such an engaging, funny, and even touching way, I dislike him a lot less. I even like his voice. He did a great job narrating the book. I highly recommend this book to any sport fan, but especially any rugby fan.

Really enjoyed this book.

I pre ordered this book the same time as James Haskells and listened to James Haskells first and was worried I wouldn't be able to follow that with this book. I really enjoyed this book and think it is well worth a read. again if you are into rugby you will enjoy this book. fair play Joe!!

Great insight into Joes life

Picked up this book after I heard that Joe struggled with many issues with mental health, the same as mine.

Joe comes across very funny in the book but does show a serious side on the heavier topics.

Too Marks Joe! From an Irish rugby fan.

Brilliant book. 👏👏

Loved it. Amazing and brilliant but also emotional. Thank you Joe for such a brilliantly funny, emotional and candid piece of writing. I noticed so many similarities between you and my husband when he retired from the game and your struggle made me cry. Will definitely read again.

Just brilliant

Amazing insight into the lives of one of the most loved characters in rugby. I doubt you will hear another autobiography that is as comical, heartfelt and uplifting all at the same time.

Great Listen

Seeing so much of Joe on TV and Youtube, being a such a great guy. This book shows that is exactly true, even through his struggles he always thought about his family. He is a an inspiration figure for not just the Rugby community but for all Men everywhere.

a cracker of a book.

always a fan of watching Joe play for England and after listening to this book, am more of a fan of Joe the man. a great book, funny, poignant and well read. touches on great topics, not only about rugby but about stuggles as a man, a father and a husband. well worth a listen. brings back great memories of Japan RWC 2019 and my memories of my own trip there as well as the loss soon after of my dad who i shared the trip with. much respect Joe and thanks for sharing all your great and not so great stories.

Good listen

Enjoyed listening to this. Lots of funny stories behind the games in the locker room during tours. Sometime the F bombs were a bit much but other times played its purpose and was very funny. If you're a UK rugby fan you'll appreciate the local context better than us southern hemisphere rugby fans. But there was enough there for me to understand and appreciate the funny side of life for a rugby player. Recommend.
