Enjoyable, well put together story...

Looking for Lainey, by Kristen Middleton was a well written, enjoyable (for such a terrifying topic) listen. The story revolves around Lainey and her mom. Lainey is kidnapped from under her moms nose while out shopping. The story mostly goes between Lainey's POV while she is with the traffickers and her experience, and her mom, who is desperate to figure out what has happened and is trying to get Lainey back. There are some chapters from Carissa Jones' POV as well, as she is the psychic who is trying to help figure out what exactly happened to Lainey. The story kept me listening, eager to find out what happened next. Ms. Middleton handled the nitty-gritty details well and doesn't go into tons of description, but still gets the horrific point across in what these traffickers have done in the past and what they intend to do with Lainey and other children. I'd definitely like to listen to more books by Ms. Middleton.

The narration, as performed by Carmina Manley, was my least favorite part of this book. There were multiple errors in production that really should have been caught by the editors or proofreaders (listeners). As for the narration itself, it was decent, but I would have liked to have listened to a performance with a bit more emotion. Especially with such a sensitive topic, emotion would have connected the listenener more to the story and characters. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Very suspenseful!

Packed with heart pounding action, suspense, mystery, racing thoughts, hanging onto the edge of your seat, and thrills! You definitely won’t be able to figure out who is behind it all! There will be several times throughout the book when you’ll think you know who the suspect is, but every time you’re most likely going to be wrong. I love books that surprise me so much at the end! I, personally, was not overly crazy about the psychic playing such a large role in the storyline, but the author still made everything work out very well. The characters were personable and were easy to like, and overall the author did a great job telling such a dramatic story. It was hard listening to sometimes because the topic of sexual predators is beyond heartbreaking, but the author did a great job omitting graphic details. Thankfully she did a great job telling the story without including many cringeworthy details. Details of sexual predator actions and activities was minimal. This audiobook was a free audiobook review given to me by the author at my request. My review is honest and voluntary.

So close to true

A story about human trafficking. It is a scary to think how true it probably can be. It was exciting and had some twist and turns. I thought a few times, "oh it is finally coming to an end" and then something would come out of now where and change it. Great read and great narration.

Gripping psychological thriller

A girl that has been abducted must be saved before she disappears into the human trafficking world.

This was a gripping psychological thriller. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. You get to hear the perspectives of various characters, both from the abducted side as well as the side searching for those that have been abducted. It was very interesting and had various twists that keep you guessing.

Carmina narrated very well with good pace and tonality. She added the perfect set of suspense and emotion into her performance and I was entertained throughout.

I recommend this book and I look forward to hearing more in this series.

Good book for a terrible subject

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't wait to see if Lainey and some of the other characters would survive to the end of the story. Human trafficking, especially when it's children, is a terrible thing. This was a realistic insight to just how multi-level some of these operations go. What people will do for money is astounding. Nice twists, good characters, and all around good story.

Gripping and emotional

This was an emotional book. I know this is something that happens a lot these days and listening to this book gives some idea of what the child, the parent and the investigators go through. Good Story

Even though she is psychic how can she even have a change to get an abducted nine year old away from the Russian mafia. Good second book in this series. Enjoyed the narration added to the tension of this story
