Publisher's summary

Hear Sally's story in this young adult sequel to Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas written by New York Times bestselling Shea Ernshaw.

Jack and Sally are "truly meant to be" ... or are they? Sally Skellington is the official, newly-minted Pumpkin Queen after a whirlwind courtship with her true love, Jack, who Sally adores with every inch of her fabric seams—if only she could say the same for her new role as Queen of Halloween Town.

Cast into the spotlight and tasked with all sorts of queenly duties, Sally can't help but wonder if all she's done is trade her captivity under Dr. Finkelstein for a different cage. But when Sally and Zero accidentally uncover a long-hidden doorway to an ancient realm called Dream Town in the forest Hinterlands, she'll unknowingly set into motion a chain of sinister events that put her future as Pumpkin Queen, and the future of Halloween Town itself, into jeopardy.

Can Sally discover what it means to be true to herself and save the town she's learned to call home, or will her future turn into her worst... well, nightmare?

I love it!!!

So a common complaint with the book is that Sally is made to seem feeble and meek in the first few chapters. To me it makes sense. She's been locked away her whole life, out of the limelight and kept under Finklestein's watchful gaze. In Pumkin Queen, she's free but now she's cast into the limelight, with all eyes on her as the first Pumkin Queen of Halloween Town. It's all so new to her, the attention. She's questioning herself and her abilities to be a Queen. Of course she's gonna be unsure of herself and meek to begin with. She has to grow. She has to get comfortable in her new life. But everyone wants her to change; her hair, her dress, her posture, her shoes, even telling her to redecorate the house she used to only dream of living in. It's a lot of pressure for someone so used to being locked up. I think people forget that. And as the story progresses, you can start to see where her thoughts change from doubt, to 'maybe I actually can do this?', to "I am the Pumpkin Queen!" It's a beautiful story of growing and finding her own inner self worth. And discovering who she really, truly is. There's not a thing I'd change about this story. My first thought upon finishing? When is the movie coming out??? 😂

Sadly disappointed

I really wanted to like this book, unfortunately I found it to be a boring slog. More often than not I found myself not agreeing with the authors representations of the characters.

Loved the book just wish it read with the book

Only thing I have against it is that chapters are off and sentences were taken out and other ones added. It was different that reading the book.

What happened?

I like to read along when listening. The chapters are off……the reader adds a lot that isn’t in the actual book. Not sure what happened there, but it was confusing

It was okay

The story itself is fine, but the book felt a bit longer than it should have. I loved the concept and the continuation of the story, but I can see why some might find it boring as this is more of an exploration of Sally's character rather than an action-packed story and she does repeat lines over and over again (probably for impact, but it might have been too much, I already knew she felt and viewed herself a certain way, I didn't need to be reminded every 10 minutes on the same feelings).

I liked it.

I bought this book after seeing it advertised several times by a couple of book lovers on TikTok & 2 YouTubers doing a short review of the book. I do not regret it, this was a very good book. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The only thing I could live without was the music that would be playing between chapters in the audiobook. Scared the bejesus out of me everytime.

Only the epilogue was woke.

The entire book was beautifully written, crafted to perfection by someone careful and and obviously a fan of the lore of NBC. I see we stuck some references to moden dat movements in the last pages of this otherwise innocent and untainted masterpiece. But would Disney have published it without said references?
