During the Second World War, Flt Lt Richard Stevens led an extraordinary campaign as an RAF nightfighter. Known to contemporaries as "Cat's Eyes" and by the height of his success in July 1941 as the "Lone Wolf", Flt Lt Stevens was the RAF's highest scoring nightfighter pilot with 14 victories.
What makes his story unique is that all this was achieved without the aid of radar or another crew member. Instead, Flt Lt Stevens used extraordinary skill, instinct, and innate marksmanship. A troubled Life
Rather dry telling, with all the operational details, of an interesting man's largely unhappy life. the personsl story is somewhat inscrutable, with conflicting accounts of him from famile vs. colleagues. Stevens may himself have deliberately obscured his inner life. The only perceptive and emotional account is given by the war artist Eric Kennington, in a letter to Stephens' father after his son's death. It is then subjected tp pointless and impossible speculation concerning their relationship. Impossible to tell with so little knowledge.
