Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling author Janet Dailey journeys to the Lone Star state and the Cee Bar Ranch, where the Calders face a new threat to their land and way of life.

Quint Echohawk is a lawman, not a rancher, but he's a Calder through and through. And when someone sets out to undermine the Calders' Texas outfit, it's time for him to step in and investigate.

From the moment Quint's boots touch Texas dirt, it's clear that everyone in town is running scared from Max Rutledge, the ruthless owner of a competing ranch. Posing as a cowboy looking for work, Quint has no one to trust but "Empty" Garner and his granddaughter, Dallas. In Empty, Quint finds a steadfast ally; in Dallas, Quint finds something more--the promise of a future.

In a town where betrayal lies around every corner, where every unlocked door, thrown punch, or suspicious fire is just a hint of deadlier things to come, the Calders will be tested as never before. And this time, it could cost them more than their land…it could cost them everything.

Another great Calder saga.

Story held my attention, but as stated in all my previous reviews of the Calder series the narrator leaves a lot to be desired. In no way should a story about cattle, horses and cowboys should be Read by a Scottish woman. It certainly took away from the book and all the hard work Janet Daily put into writing it.

good Great story series. can't wait for the next.

I loved the story, I have read the entire series. my only problem and I have said it be forever. The accents don't fit the characters. Quint had a Scottish accent, All Wrong .

Great story

Awful narrator sounded like story was taking place in England instead of Montana and Texas

The English narrator ruined it for me!

I’ve listened to a lot of narrators that have received bad reviews and have always managed to get past them and enjoy the story, that is NOT the case with this book!! Whoever in their right mind chose a female English narrator for a rugged cattleman/lawman ranch saga?? I am so disappointed and struggling to finish, (less than an hour remaining). I feel like I’m listening to a leprechaun (grandpa), an English lady (who’s Texas born and raised, I might add), serving High Tea and the hero and Chase’s grandson sounding like a mix between a prissy English lord and a not-so-hot Scot! I wanted to get to know Logan’s son because I loved Logan in his story but I was unable to feel anything for him! I almost cried when I saw the same narrator for the final Calder saga series that unfortunately I have already purchased!

Great Book Terrible Book

Why did they use a narrator with a Scottish accent? I like this series but I hate the reader. She does not even try. Most narrators change their voices to fit the characters but her Scottish accent is always there. I really enjoy following the saga of the Caulder family.
