Hat Nabokovs berühmter Skandalroman Lolita womöglich einen gleichnamigen Vorläufer? Der Berliner Feuilletonist Heinz von Lichberg veröffentlichte 1916 eine Sammlung von Kurzgeschichten, deren eine Erzählung den Titel "Lolita" trägt und in Bezug auf Aufbau und Inhalt verblüffende Ähnlichkeiten zu Nabokovs Roman von 1955 aufweist.
Da Nabokov von 1922 bis 1937 in Berlin lebte, könnte man annehmen, dass er von Lichbergs Geschichte kannte. Sind diese Übereinstimmungen bloßer Zufall, Plagiat oder vielleicht das Resultat unbewusster Erinnerung? Der Germanist Michael Maar spürt diesen Fragestellungen nach und untersucht genau die Indizien, um schließlich zu einer Antwort zu gelangen.
