Publisher's summary

London, 1938: Lizzie Larch is a 20-year-old hat maker in London's east end. She is happy and popular, but she carries a secret. Seven years ago she was viciously attacked and recovered in a private sanatorium where she miscarried a child.

Lizzie has no memory of the night of the attack, but secrets cannot stay secret for too long. When she starts courting her boss' nephew, a shocking revelation surfaces; threatening to destroy their new-found happiness.

Gripping

I listened to Rosie Clarke Harper series having discovered it half way through. I knew I would enjoy this audio book, and was correct. The combination of Rosie's writing and Juliette Burton naration is excellent. That makes a big difference for me. Thank you and I look forward to the rest of this series.

Perfect escapism

I’m now a big fan of Rosie Clarke. Wonderful stories. The narrator was perfect for it, too.

No good

Sorry had to abandon this book, it was so slow, and the narrator voice was awful, everyone sounded the same

A lovely.....

story with some great antics and characters within the book. The narrator was very good at using different voices for the characters.

Didn’t hold my attention …..

Well what a boring story or was it the narrator’s boring voice ?? I’m not quite sure which it was to be fair. I found the narrator very monotone and there were far to many, ‘He said’, ‘She said’ going on. I won’t be listening to any further books in this series as the narrator is the same, nor will I be listening to any books that this narrator narrator’s. This is of course my personal opinion you might find you like her and the story but I didn’t.

Luke's Secret

I absolutely loved this story. From the sad beginning when Lizzie was young and to the awful things which happened during the Second World War to the lovely ending, I just couldn’t stop listening. I now must listen to the next two books in the Workshop Girls series!

Average read

Average read with enough to keep going. Some of the dialogue is a bit unbelievable with some very modern phrases sometimes employed despite the story being set in the 1930s.
