Publisher's summary

Lizards Eat Butterflies unveils David Martin’s deepest passion about how we’re living on this planet and how we could do so much more to improve our experience with a shift in perspective. In a triumph of cutting-edge science, social commentary, and deeply personal life experience, he shows us that, with an alteration in perspective, that which stands in the way of our humanity is an illusion that can be eradicated.

Far from being a 12-step program - this is the un-program in 12 sections - Lizards Eat Butterflies deconstructs the myths that trap us into victimhood, isolation, and futility. Having traveled the world for three decades of work and with the worldwide film success of Future Dreaming, along with many lectures and workshops, he weaves the narrative of this book to create a tapestry of provoking, thoughtful, and considered reexaminations of our dominant myths and perspective impairments. Lizards is a practical conversation starter to defuse the explosive challenges of inadequacy, indifference, and apathy.

Listen to this over and over until it makes sense.

You should pay for this Gem
The presentation could be better, if I had paid for this I would have insisted on it, However, I urge you to listen beyond this. I have added this nugget to my list of "listen to again" because there are points that are SO profound, made so subtlety that they are easily missed. My first sweep I made several book marks and by the end there were at least 7 more that I missed... this time round and my mind has been driving me crazy over them. the author is clearly intelligent, passionate and caring. The humour is dry and sharp and is well executed, if you have the ear for it. The production could do with a lot of polish. If the author listened to this, then recorded a fresh take with good editing and mastering thiswould take this diamond in the rough to a set jewel status. In fact I might just master this myself for personal use.
listen at 1.35 the speed to hide most of the breathing and mouth clicks.

As I say, listen to the message not the delivery, this will show you something very special about this world.

Intellectually Engaging // Author as an Orator? No thanks.

I’m sorry...I tried, I really did. There’s just something about the authors voice and demeanor that rubs me the wrong way. Should’ve had someone else narrate this. Dr. Martin is clearly brilliant and I think this book is amazing. It’s just his tone of voice and mildly awkward smugness that I couldn’t endure.

One invaluable pieces to my puzzle

Not easy to write a review about this book but all I can say is that I value it for its challenges and provoking content the questions that it causes me to have an answer, and for the things that I find similar in my own life and experiences. It’s not often that an author’s Life and challenges mirror so many in your own, but when it does it forms a strong bond between you and the book that you’re reading. Thank you for being you. Thank you for sharing you.

A most fascinating and engaging book

I am going to listen to this book again and then probably buy it in print so I can read it even after the world goes off the rails. Highest recommendation.

Good Topic Ruined by Author

First, this author is a HORRIBLE narrator. It was so damn painful.

Second, you know when your parents tried to be cool by saying things that you a d your friends would say, and all it did was make you cringe and yell at your parents to go away? Martin does that in his book. A lot. There’s an “Ain’t nobody got time for that” an “OMG,” and plenty of other attempts at humor that are so cringe-worthy that it’s hard to listen to.

This book was free, otherwise, I’d ask for a refund.

Please Listen to this Book

Few books in my life have impacted me as deeply and as quickly as this book. If you were on a journey of discovery questioning not only the nature of the world around you but your own personal story I highly suggest that you engage with this book with open ears open heart and willing to gain insight and perspective that you may be lacking. Namaste.

A wonderful book

Very interesting and mind expanding. Thank you for this wonderful book that made me think more about life, cultures and consciousness. Also thank you for reading the whole thing in Audible so I can listen while still working without having to be connected to the internet. Much appreciation 🙏

Book was quite interesting, but narrator was monotone....

This book was an interesting listen, but probably a better read. The narrator was completely monotone which made it hard to appreciate the humor or stories the author was trying to convey. Maybe read instead.

I won't be finishing, but you may like it.

First rule of writing: Know your audience, the author uses terms like isomorphism, then explains the terms as if his audience couldn't deduce the meaning by the context (rather degrading). Use of voice and humor are present, but the narrative is fairly monotony makes it dry.

Very decent

Very decent book with many good concepts and ideas. The more biographical stories sprinkled throughout was not distracting from the main points too much. An entertaining read with interesting points of view that are described really well.
