Story
What won't we try in our quest for perfect health, beauty, and the fountain of youth? Well, just imagine a time when doctors prescribed morphine for crying infants. When liquefied gold was touted as immortality in a glass. And when strychnine - yes, that strychnine, the one used in rat poison - was dosed like Viagra. Looking back with fascination, horror, and not a little dash of dark, knowing humor, Quackery recounts the lively, at times unbelievable, history of medical misfires and malpractices.

John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First, he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce - and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So, we fight, to defend Earth and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.

The Coldfire trilogy tells a story of discovery and battle against evil on a planet where a force of nature exists that is capable of reshaping the world in response to psychic stimulus. This terrifying force, much like magic, has the power to prey upon the human mind, drawing forth a person's worst nightmare images or most treasured dreams and indiscriminately giving them life. This is the story of two men. They are absolute enemies who must unite to conquer an evil greater than anything their world has ever known.

Not bad
This story had a good idea and pulls through for the most part. My main issue is his flip flopping between an ego driven fighter and whiney kinda protector, most of the time it was ok but certain instances were a bit annoying. the performed was ok, he really needs to work on differentiating voices for the characters.

Think ant man meets LITRPG
So imagine having your consciousness downloaded into a body as small as ant-man. You have the same muscle mass density strength etc but in a tiny package....now have that body in a world that is basically a fantasy version of honey I shrunk the kids. The whole society is that small scale, you are a god to them, spiders and ants, mantises etc are like Demons to them...add into that a prior person who stayed there permanently as a god among men is a disgusting tyrant. Can you make a difference? Should you even try or just enjoy yourself? Can you afford to find away to come back when your time is up? Should you? Penalty could be death as it’s a one way return ticket if you come back...a great story awesome insectoid vs man battles etc. very well written and narrated. could use some improvement
The narrator does a pretty good job ,does need some work on not sounding monotone with each character a bit, still skilled though. The story has some interesting elements but the character just wasn't the best he had some redeeming qualities though. they got arrogant fast and just did not seem to have ability to ask questions that would be helpful. The book is wish fulfillment for male fantasies It is something to pass the the time. It wasn't up my alley but others may enjoy it,

Maybe for a beach read.
It cost more money then you want to know but who wouldn’t jump at the chance to be a god for 42 days, especially when it would only be 3 days in real life. There is a catch of course you will only be shrunk down to the point where some insects will seem as big as tanks.
If you are looking for mindless dribble with lots of fighting some mention of sex but nothing graphic then I guess this is the book for you. The premise is interesting, think Honey I shrunk the kids mixed with a classic litrpg, the problem is it takes the bad parts from both and combines them. The writing while well formed lacks any sense of character development or motivations. It’s like eating a perfectly cooked steak but no seasoning was use and it ends up having a lot of gristle.
For a beach read or something similar I’d say give it a shot, but other than that I would probably pass.

An Enjoyable Adventure
I found this story interesting and different from other books I have read, it was well narrated and it held my interest until the end. Like the previous reviewer I did not like the way the main character Josh Ridley's personality changed once he arrived in Betaloome. Another positive was the good humour of the book, it did make me smile several times. Overall a good book which is worth a listen.
I was given a free copy of this book to produce an objective and unbiased review.
