Publisher's summary

For fans of Pretty Little Liars, Little Monsters is a new psychological thriller from the author of The Darkest Corners, about appearances versus reality and the power of manipulation among teenage girls.

Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and, strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister.

Kacey's new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls - she's even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them.

Which is why it's so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don't invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn't exactly feel like an accident.

But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly Broken Falls doesn't seem so welcoming after all - especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.

Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you're the new girl, you shouldn't trust anyone.

Critic reviews

"A twisted story of obsession and manipulation, Little Monsters captivated me right up to its surprising conclusion - and left me wondering how well I really know my friends." (Chelsea Sedoti, author of The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett)

I called it!

I would just like to toot my own horn for predicting the ending! I enjoyed listening to this book. You find yourself emotionally invested, becoming a detective yourself putting the pieces together. I love when a book succeeds in pulling you in that way. Kudos to the author.

Best ending line

great book, summarized the ending instead of showing more of it, had the best ending line that wrapped up the whole book. It was indeed a chair gripping murder mystery novel.

kept me guessing and listening

Enjoyed this book all the way through and finished quickly as I enjoyed so much.
I had to speed up narration, as narrater was a bit slow, and the pauses inbetween sentences were a bit longer than needed, at least for me.
Good writer and story teller.. Will look at more by this author.

Twisted, shocking & surprising

This book was absolutely. Amazing it kept you on the edge of your seat. It was full of twists and turns. Playing off the "normal" Teenage life. High School, Friends (or lack their of) and all the drama! Then comes the secrets, talking behind backs, the lies.
And twisted, very twisted. A murder. Wrong suspect's!!! BLOWN AWAY! Great Book Highly recommend. Definitely won't be disappointed.

They really are little monsters

This book is more of a psychological thriller than murder mystery. The book is driven by character exploration, with each chapter revealing a new, unexpected layer.

The real mystery isn’t “who did it?”; the real mystery is “who are these people, really? Who is hiding themselves, who is repressing themselves, and who is showing their true selves?”.

Made it seem like I was watching a tv show which made it very enjoyable:)

***4 Stars***

I haven’t really read any YA thriller books, but the title and cover is what caught my eye for this book. Then I read the synopsis, and I was definitely intrigued.

To me this book had almost a mean girls meets pretty little liars vibe to it. It definitely kept me on the edge and wanting to know what the outcome was going to be. I don’t want to say much because then it would be giving the story away. I will say that not only did I just read the book, I listened to the audible along with it, and it just made it very enjoyable. It made it all just seem like I was watching a tv show. Overall I really loved this book, and it was just what I needed to boost my want to read again. I definitely will be reading more from this author.

Superb!

I'm am pleasantly surprised this was so good! I finished it in like 36 hours. I really recommend it! You grow to know the characters, and think you know who is the killer but then it all goes back to square one! For such young characters, it was really entertaining to me and I don't read a lot of YA!
