Publisher's summary

The book that started it all! Little House in the Big Woods is the first book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's treasured Little House series, which is based on her life growing up as an American pioneer.

Told from four-year-old Laura's point of view, this story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Laura lives in the little house with her pa, her ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack. Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town. And every night they are safe and warm in their little house, with the happy sound of Pa's fiddle sending Laura and her sisters off to sleep.

And so begins Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of a pioneer girl and her family. The nine Little House books have been cherished by generations of readers and listeners as both a unique glimpse into America's frontier history and a heartwarming, unforgettable story.

Kids would give it 6 stars

This reading of Little House kept my seven year old boy and four year old girl quiet for the almost four hours and now they are playing house. They say they would give it six stars if they could. This tired mama would give it six stars too. I liked that the songs were actually sung/played...I grew up on this series but didn't know how all the songs went. So far we've listened to both this and Farmer Boy and will continue repeating them until we get our next credit next month!

Childhood favorite

I loved this book as a child, but really struggled with the Narrator of this audiobook. I was almost unable to finish. It is probably suited to the kids the book is aimed for, but to my older ears, she was hard to listen to. Still love the story, though.

Wonderful audiobook!

The story is, of course, a classic for a reason- it is wonderful! The recording is equally excellent!

Don't listen to the bad reviews!!!

These books are told from the perspective of a child. The narrator does a wonderful job of bringing that perspective to the story.. The violin playing is just fine for the situation seeing as how none of these characters have been classically taught is classically taught for crying out loud, they are pioneers! If you come in to this series thinking it's supposed to be a certain wayeah it's supposed to be a certain way or comparing it to the television series than you will in fact be disappointed for the TV series took severe artistic license And created situations That were in fact fictional from the actual Wilder's life So that being said, if you Enjoy a wonderfully told Siri yet wonderfully told series of books about what it was actually Like to settle a raw United States, then this series is definitely for you.

Great Reading of a Classic

A pleasant, soothing reading of a timeless classic. Read with great inflection and just enough animation to really bring it to life. We listened with our 3 and 5 year old daughters on a long road trip, and they listened *mostly quietly* the whole time. The 5 year old was particularly interested in it. So fun to introduce her to this series this way and interesting to read/listen again as a parent.😶 So much amazing hard work to live that life!

Laura is nice kind of babyish👶🏼👶🏼👶🏼👶🏼

Laura is a good girl. She is fun hard-working and loves animals. Unfortunately Laura is kind of babyish my kids got bored and walked away !!!! I'm kind of upset half disappointed I love the books got the whole series. It's sweet heartwarming and sweet! Though there are some sad submissive and even tragic parts, that I believe all parents should hear and I strongly advise and encourage parents to preview this audiobook before letting your child listen to it. A historic story

This story was not like I remembered as a child. I loved the history on how things were made and life back then. I enjoyed it as an adult. My 5 year old daughter couldn’t get into it and quickly lots interest.
The reader of the story didn’t change her voice and was too soft.
