Publisher's summary

Former child music prodigy Lily Croft spends most days in her home office crunching numbers and analyzing data as an actuary. Once, she filled concert halls across the world until the pressure got too much and forced her retreat. When her boss hands her a temporary assignment, Lily has to leave the safety of working from home to work with people at an office. She keeps her head down and stays focused, but one night on her way to the train station, she hears music wafting from the Leading Note, and the life and feelings she suppressed for more than a decade bubble up to the surface.

Lily is inexplicably drawn to Hope D’Marco, Leading Note’s gorgeous and brilliant founder. But falling for Hope and reexploring her passion for music force Lily to face her past.

Will she go back into hiding or have the courage to confront the consequences of her past and present colliding?

Loved it!

Whenever a new Kris Bryant book appears on Audible, I buy it right away. Her books are always enjoyable (and I like Brittni Pope as narrator). I loved "Listen"! I loved both main characters and the journeys that brought them together. I dont want to ruin any storyline surprise but I loved how both women were made to be together and each needed the other. That's vague. sorry. it's really a great book that I had a hard time stopping. out of all the kris Bryant books on audible this was my 2nd fav (I'm a big fan of Taste, so definitely check that one out after this)

Lily is a useless lesbian...

And I say that with every bit of fondness in my heart. It has nothing to do with her mental health issues and everything to do with how uselessly head over heels Lily is for this woman that she meets, and without even really trying begins to coax Lily to reclaim some of her life.

It’s a beautiful story. It deals with the issues it raises with a healthy dose of realism that will be familiar to anyone with even remotely the same struggles as Lily. It made me smile so hard the familiarity of the way Lily’s attraction over powered her and just made her feel ridiculous. Who hasn’t felt that way around a woman we like?

The inevitable “problem” the couple faces feels like a legitimate problem, not one made up or forced to keep them apart for a while before they inevitably get back together. And it was dealt with in a way that didn’t feel ridiculous or make me irritated with the characters either.

This story was just an all-around delight. I can’t recommend it enough.

Narrator was boring

The book as all Bryant books were great but the narrator subjected the listener to a boring pace that almost made me stop listening. The book deserves 4 stars in my opinion.

I felt like I could hear the music

I don't know why exactly but stories involving music just do everything for me. there was a few ways the main character acts at the climax I really didn't jive with but I haven't had the same experiences she has so I guess I don't really know how I would act in that situation if I had... but the story is sweet and beautiful. Brittni is hit or miss for me when narrating but I thought this was a hit and loved her voicework here.

A new contender for my top 3 favourite books.

Kris has always been one of my favourite authors so I knew this book would be good no matter what. What I didn’t expect was how emotionally connected I would feel to the main character and identify so closely with their struggle with anxiety. As someone who has suffered with anxiety for most of my life I found a better understanding of Lily’s struggle with social uncertainty. This is such a beautiful emotionally stirring book that drew me in on a personal level. I could not rate it highly enough.

Love, Love, Love this book!

I don’t know why I procrastinated on buying this book. I enjoy Kris Bryant’s books, but this one resonates deeply in me. Dealing with anxiety can be debilitating, but people are worth the chance. Thank you for writing this amazing book! Ms. Pope’s narration is wonderful! Buy this book!

beautiful story, great narrator

this is definitely one of my favorite Kris Bryant stories. she reaches so deep into her characters and ends with a soft sweet sigh rather trying the grand and unrealistic gesture you expect. brava.

OMG She's Done it Again!

I don't know how Kris Bryant does it? It's as though each novel has been a personal experience of hers.
That being said 'Listen' is different because we caught a small glimpse of the main character, Lily, emotional breakdown. I would have enjoyed more insight on that day but I suppose there was nothing left to say. The moment when Lily and Hope's eyes met it was instant kismet. It turns out that Hope D'Marco was just what Lily needed; a beautiful woman that is sweet and patient whom is an instructor on music therapy.
I was a bit shocked that Hope new Lily's secret identity. Explains why she was so eager to go out with her but Hope was cool and not a total fan-girl. In fact, I agreed with how Hope did not reveal Lily's secret, it was not hers to tell. I was happy when Lily realised it as well. Because of Hope's slip-up with the ringtone and her employer agreeing to help out the Leading Note, Lily was able to play that same composition on the piano without having an anxiety attack. How perfect was it she was able to find solace to play at the music centre... then to have Hope appear in the doorway to see, as well as hear, Lily playing the piano after 13 years, heartwarming! Music brought them together but it was their love for one another that kept them together!
