Difficult to get through

This book was really hard for me to care about, and I tried. One of my favorite authors listed this as one of his favorite series,, but I just don't see the appeal. In a world where game players are treated like sports stars, Leo Lennox is the best You'll know this because every single person in the book calls him Champ. Everyone. Constantly. To a point it felt like they said it every third word.

Leo is an awesome video gamer, and so is sought out to help playtest and develop the most realistic video game of all time. His time in the game is the best part of the book, but we spend more time with the old champ in the real world. Where all he does is whine that he isn't happy anymore and he needs a change. He was so annoying. "Yeah, like by the time the ten thousandth beautiful chick hits on you you couldn't care less." That's a parahrase. Lenox is constantly sought after, and you have to ask why. He has literally no personality. Plus all the stuff about Jew this and Jew That bothered me. You just have to say or show his manager is jewish. You don't have to make it sound like some neo-guys worst nightmare.

I guess I am disappointed in that I was looking for a more gaming style book. Instead we get a good chunk of the book revolving around his contract negotiations. Oh, and for the longest time I was going back and forth on whether or not he was really in a game or in an alternate reality.

The kicker or me was we finally get to a point where he cn spend time in the game andthe book ends. Not my cuppa.

Story did do great as the narrator! Very impressed by his work.

Not sure how I feel about this one...

Between literally HALF the book being the main character trying to thwart off sexual advance from an elf , and the ending being so abrupt that it isn't even a cliffhanger, just a cessitation of story, three stars is fair.
It was a fun read for a lot of the book. Hopefully the author can correct these flaws in any future installment , because despite its short length and shortcomings, I would enjoy reading more...

Brilliant Narraration

The narrator really rocked this book. MSE already produces super high quality books, but couple them with a good narrarator capable of doing multiple voices, and accents and you have a winner.

I expected something better

I listened to this book for 8 hours and the main character, Leo, only played the game twice. So the story pretty much revolves around this video game champion just wanting something new to play, not him actually playing in the game. If your going to advertise a litrpg then maybe the main story should be about the game.

so good! I'm totally addicted !

so easy to listen to , so much fun .
the narrator was awesome the story was great !
and it hints at something bigger going on without actually giving anything away.
if anything my only complaint was it took so long to get into the game world.
on the other hand both worlds are very compelling.

Another awesome book from MSE

as expected, I thoroughly enjoyed this awesome book from MSE. i dont know why I put off starting this series for so long, it was a page turner from page 1 to the end. the Narrator did a fantastic job giving personality to each character. overall a great listen I highly recommend this if you are a fan of MSE!

Kind of entertaining

Although the hedge words can be kind of distracting, the story definitely shows promise. Looking forward to the next.

Boringly Bad

This is a really really boring book. Bad character development. Weak plot. Annoying elves. I'm at a loss for words to describe how bad this book really is.

good story. but abit long winded.

your given a massive amount of completely useless information. infact even at the start i recomend you skip through all the ability descriptions. the story is very slow pace, but thats also the worst flaw. the mc is pretty good, all the main characters are fine, only other critizisme would be the cliche where there is some dumb misunderstanding and mc tries to correct ppl, but everyone talks over him and make a big deal out if it, its not clear if they are just taking the piss at his expense or not, but it doesnt fit. more something youll see in a comedy anime than anything serious.

I’m hooked

For me, this story took a while to get started. Once it did get going it got me hooked. I can’t wait to find out if my suspicions are correct, although I don’t think that’s going to happen in book 2, or book 3. Maybe not even books 4,5 or 6.

Nearly Refunded but glad I didn't

Okay I didn't enjoy the start of the book. I was quickly bored by the first chapter and didn't like the characters and didn't even know anything about the main protagonist. But then it gripped me and it kept me gripped right to the end.
I can't help but feel the author did this on purpose so we (the readers) drew parallels with the MP who himself was bored. And when the MP started to get excited the book became more and more exciting. So bravo to you Mr author if this was intended and if it wasn't don't worry I still really enjoyed the rest of the book.
And yes I eventually liked all the characters from the goofy best friends to the nympho elf.

Alot of litrpgs put this whole books contents in their first couple of chapters. The author however seemed to realise that the first book of any litrpg saga is the best and it is my hope he keeps this pace for the rest of the series so it feels like that first book experience all the way through.

The narrator does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life with many different believable accents and is probably one of the top narrators I have listened to.

I don't often leave full reviews but this was something special. Give it a read you won't be disappointed.

Really enjoyed listening to this audio book!

Good story, enjoyed this book alot. Plenty of action, good character development. I only found one of the characters (will not mention who as I don't want to influence others opinions) rather irritating I understand that this is intentional but could be toned down a bit, I hope her development is improved upon. But apart from this still worth 5 stars overall.

way to much of a build up for a sub par end

okay, first of all you should know that the first *seven hours* are build up, straight up boring...
the in-game experience was very underwhelming even if you didn't have the build up, I get it the game world is realistic, no need to go on and on and on about how the grass is moist and sky is blue...
why the hell is the elf girl so one dimensional, you could summaries her completely by three words; dumb horny maid. and apparently all of the elves are like her, a fucking template...
no character development what so ever for anyone except for the MC, and even then it's only minor.
the only savings grace is the narrator, he did an excellent job and was the main reason I kept on listening
