This is the moment lovers of the de Lohr Dynasty series have been waiting for.

Westley de Lohr has a secret—he's been betrothed to the young girl who was his "best friend" when he was about five years of age. Her father was a powerful neighbor, and Westley's father, seeing an opportunity, brokered a betrothal for his youngest son. As her father's only child, she would inherit a strong fiefdom, and Christopher wanted that for his son.

But things have changed.

Elysande du Nor used to pull Westley's hair and make his life miserable, but somehow in that childhood fighting, two fathers saw the opportunity for a betrothal. The truth was that Elysande grew up, fostered as a proper young woman, but never lost that tomboyish nature. When Westley finally shows up at her family home to claim his betrothed, Elysande realizes the boy she used to taunt has, indeed, become a man.

And a very handsome one.

Now, a betrothal doesn't seem so bad, but as Westley and Elysande come to know one another as adults, trouble is brewing. In a border skirmish that Westley participates in, Elysande receives word that Westley has been taken prisoner. While Christopher and the rest of the de Lohr war machine try to figure out how to reclaim their son, Elysande goes straight to Westley's captor with a proposal.

And it's not what anyone expected.

Join Westley and Elysande as two childhood friends grow to love one another as adults, where passion and loyalty grow into something stronger than life itself. Courage is something that stirs the soul, and Westley and Elysande must show their mettle in a situation that becomes direr than either could imagine, but when death comes for a loved one, it threatens to destroy all they've built.

Bring the tissues for this impactful, poignant romance. Christopher de Lohr's (Rise of the Defender) youngest son takes front and center in this epic Medieval romance. Sins, sacrifice, and secrets are the order of the day in Lion of Thunder! Strong women, enemies to lovers, and a little grumpy sunshine prevail!

Great Story

This has a heartbreaking but beautiful death of Christopher De Lohr, and one that will stay with me for some time. The story centered around the youngest de Lohr son, Westley, and his childhood nemesis, Elysande du Nor, daughter of a powerful neighbor. They had been betrothed since they were children. She thought of him as a bully, and she was somewhat of a pesky tomboy. They did not want to marry because they could only think of each other from their younger days. They both do everything possible to avoid carrying out this contract, but Christopher finally makes his son go through with the marriage. They soon find that they can have love and peace within their marriage. Others don't want them together, and they have to sacrifice and fight for each other to stay together.

I loved hearing the "Altera Vita" part of this book. It was such a beautiful and special ending, and one that I will hold fondly. Beautiful job, Kathryn! Nathaniel Black brings all the characters to life and does a wonderful job! 5 stars all the way with this one!

Heartbreaking and Beautiful

Kathryn Le Veque never disappoints, and Nathaniel Black gets across the "finer feelings" of the characters brilliantly. I came to love each character -- written with just the right amount of self-talk, human failings vs. triumph, and perfectly timed humor. I have to say, that if it weren't for the bits of humor, I wouldn't have loved these as completely as I did. In addition, and possibly in spite of, LOL, the human heartbreak had me in serious tears over parts of the story -- usually losing a beloved character. I often avoid stories that bring me to tears, but this was more of a testament to the great depth of love built up in the relationships between characters --- not an easy thing to do for an author I feel, and was always resolved well. Of course, the narrator makes ALL the difference in how those feelings evolve as well. If myself as listener doesn't believe the narrator feels it, then how can I? Many thanks to great teamwork Kathryn & Nathaniel!! I'm truly looking forward to more fabulous series to come :).

From a Le Veque fan of old -- Highly Recommend!!
