Publisher's summary

When she finally surrenders her heart, will it be too late?

Susan Quinn, a social worker turned surrogate mom to foster teens, fights to save the group home she's worked hard to build. But now, she faces a dwindling staff, foreclosure, and old heartaches that won't stay buried. Her only hope lies with the last person she'd ever turn to - a brawny handyman with a guitar, a questionable past, and a God he keeps calling Father.

Like a Love Song is a romantic drama about a fiercely loyal woman and some castaway kids who need the courage to believe in a love that never fails.

Critic reviews

"In her sophomore novel, Camille Eide has penned a beautiful tale with just the right chords of humor and tenderness. The prose of Like a Love Song is lovely, and the myriad twists and turns tugged at my heart as I was rooting for this cast of endearing characters. The splendor and raw beauty of Oregon's high desert is the perfect backdrop for this gripping love story. It's one you don't want to miss" (Carla Stewart, award-winning author of Stardust and The Hatmaker's Heart)
"Eide writes a touching story about two unlikely heroes who sacrifice themselves to love those who are not loved by others ... This emotional book touches on very tender subjects in a tactful, graceful way..." Romantic Times, 4.5 Stars, Top Pick)

More than a Love Story

If you could sum up Like a Love Song in three words, what would they be?

Beautiful, engaging, heartfelt

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joe was my favorite character because a) dreamy sigh, b) his history is a sort-of picture of a character from all the way back in Genesis, and c) his relationship with God.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene - Joe taking a rather drugged Sue home from the clinic after her knee surgery. Adorably cute :)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! Becky Doughty did a great job again with voices, especially Chaz! Ah! His lisp, my heart! :)

AMAZING!

Would you consider the audio edition of Like a Love Song to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version but thoroughly enjoyed both the story line and the narration.

What did you like best about this story?

The development of the characters. I loved getting to know the characters and the intricacies of their past and personalities.

What about Becky Doughty’s performance did you like?

She skillfully switched between distinctive character voices as well as mirrored the rhythm and mood of the characters with her voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have if i could have run away from life, yes! In all it took me less than two days and I found every opportunity not to "put it down".

Any additional comments?

This is the second book of Camille Eide's I've enjoyed and look forward to more. She is a skillful writer and I love both the plot and character development of her stories. They have just the right amount of predictability and surprise, creative confusing and serious problems that have beautiful and difficult to find solutions. I also love how she weaves a strong faith throughout her stories so that the solution really is through finding the Lord. Her books bring so much glory to God and this book in particular helped me to see the pursuit of God the father in a new and beautifully illustrated way.

A heartwarming, inspiring, compelling romance!

I loved this book! Susan Quinn, social worker turned surrogate mom to foster teens, is a very strong, compelling character. She uses her past to push her to do everything she can for the kids in her care and to relate to them on a level that others can't. When she reaches the end of her rope, she turns to the only option that seems available, a brawny handyman with a guitar and a relationship with a God he keeps calling Father. However, this handyman also has a past and is on a mission of his own. As the sparks fly between them, can these two work together to save the group home and be there for the kids in her care? Or will their pasts catch up to them and tear them apart?

The kids in this story will break your heart! I loved the interactions Susan and Joe had with these kids and the way they were able to relate to them and help them. Their individual personalities shine through and you'll root for their happy ending.

This book is very well written with plenty of drama, a little bit of mystery, an endearing romance and an emotional, inspirational, compelling story-line. You won't want to put it down once you start it!

The narration of this story by Becky Doughty was awesome! I could listen to her voice for hours! I specifically looked for more stories narrated by her when I was done with this one.

Great story!

Excellent storytelling and superb narration! Sue, Joe, Bertie, and all the kids fight to save Juniper Ranch. Their experiences of abandonment pulled my heartstrings and their resilience is inspiring.

A don’t miss read.

I absolutely loved this story. It’s about a woman running a home for kids whose adoptive parents returned them and unadoptable children. Sue runs the home and has serious issues from her abusive childhood.
I laughed and cried. When I finished the book all I could think was I wanted more.

Inspirational!

I loved the characters in this novel. I connected with the struggle Susan is going through to provide "her children" a home and to teach them to be self-sufficient. The lives experienced by the children is heartbreaking and all too real. The narration was excellent.

Love story! Well done audio!

Susan Quinn, a foster mom to castaway kids, just wants these children to have a healthy, safe environment in which to grow. Her childhood was a nightmare, so to give these kids hope and stability, Susan would feel like a success. But because of her past, she's not very trusting, and men are at the top of her list of who not to trust.

Joe is trying to find his siblings who were separated when their mother abandoned them, later to be found and taken to different foster homes. Joe just happened to have grown up in the very house Susan Quinn is running, only then it was called "My Father's House". Prior to that, though, he had some awful experiences, but this last foster home was his salvation, literally.

He found himself at Susan Quinn's foster home on his way to another job, broke, and all his things stolen out of his truck. She gave him a job while he waited to start the other, but much of the time she wasn't sure she could trust him, especially with the kids.

God's words to him were clear. "Show her My love". But a self-sufficient, broken, healing abused woman has no need nor desire for God. Joe had his work cut out for him, but these kids that had such rough beginnings were a huge bonus. He loved them and they loved him. It was just Susan that had her doubts.

I'm not sure I'd classify this as a romance novel, but it sure is a love story. Very good, inspiring and worth the read!

Oh, just an aside...this was an audiobook read by Becky Doughty. I've had the pleasure of listening to her lovely voice in other books. She does a great job!

liked it!

it was a good story. the author had some good character growth and I felt pretty connected to the characters and wanted to listen to the end. Jo was pretty over-the-top in her environmentalism, so that made it a little hard to feel super connected to her, but it wasn't enough to make me stop listening.
