Publisher's Summary

Somewhere along the way, we got distracted. As much as we multitask, love our devices, and feel like we're in control, deep down we know that something is off. Shortened attention spans, declines in critical thinking, lack of sleep, self-doubt, and decreased creativity are just some of the effects coming to light in an age of digital distraction. It's time to reclaim our lives. It's time to take control.

Lifescale is a journey of self-discovery and growth. It's about getting back into balance and remastering our destinies. Author Brian Solis knows firsthand. He struggled with distraction and all of its ill effects. To get his life back, he developed a set of techniques, exercises, and thought experiments designed to tame the chaos, and positively and productively navigate our day-to-day lives. Instead of falling victim to the never-ending cycle of newsfeeds, Likes, addictive apps, and boredom scrolling (a.k.a. the endless scroll), we can learn to manage our time and inspire our own lives in a way that will bring meaning back - without sacrificing the benefits that our devices bring us.

In Lifescale, Brian has done the legwork to pull together scientific findings and practical tools into one audiobook. Listeners - especially those who are distracted - will connect with the humor, pathos, and inspiration found in this audiobook.

Middle was meh

I really enjoyed the beginning and ending of this book. There were a lot of issues I personally related to with great, detailed feedback on how to combat those. The middle was hard for me to get through. Could just be since it applied to me less, but I felt the author went off on a few, less related tangents. Felt like I was listening to different variations of the same predictable story at points. Overall, I enjoyed it, and there were definitely some hidden gems. I don’t know if I’d be jumping to recommend this book.

The book you need right now

First if all, this needs to be consumed via audio. Buy the book too if you want, but having Brian be the one to share his book in his voice is what makes this special. You get to feel his passion and his insights much more than just reading the book. In a time where we are confined and in front of devices more and more, this book hit home to me to analyze how I am spending my time and what value I'm getting from it. The need to unplug, be present, and bring value to relationships is super timely.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to challenge yourself a bit as we continue and come out of this pandemic life with greater sense if self awareness with your relationship with digital tools and habits.
