    On the third day there was a wedding. It took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
    When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
    Jesus answered, “Woman, why did you come to me? My time has not yet come.”
    His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you to do.”
    In that place there were six stone water jars. The Jews used jars like these in their washing ceremony. Each jar held about 20 or 30 gallons.
    Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled the jars to the top.
    Then he said to them, “Now take some out and give it to the master of the feast.”
    So the servants took the water to the master.
    The master tasted the water. It had become wine. He did not know where the wine came from. But the servants who brought the wine knew. The master of the wedding called the groom.
    He said to him, “People always serve the good wine first. Later, after the guests have drunk a lot, they serve the cheap wine. But you have saved the good wine until now.”

    They asked John, “If you’re not the Messiah, Elijah, or the Prophet, why are you baptizing?”
    John answered, “I baptize with water. But someone you don’t know is with you. He is the One who comes after me. I’m not good enough to untie his sandals!” This happened at Bethany on the east side of the Jordan River. John was baptizing there.
    The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him. John said, “Look! The Lamb of God! He takes the sin of the world away! This is the One I was talking about!”

    Who are you?

    The Jews in Jerusalem sent some priests and assistants to John. The Jews sent them to ask John, “Who are you?”
    John came right out and said, “I am not the Messiah”.
    “Then who are you?” they asked. “Are you Elijah?”
    “I am not,” he said.
    “Are you the Prophet?”
    “No,” he answered.
    Then they said, “Who are you? Tell us, so we can give an answer to the people who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
    John replied using the words of the prophet Isaiah. John said, “I am a voice shouting in the desert, ‘Make the road straight for the Lord!’”
