Publisher's summary

The best selling six-books series is now complete! In video games, players hunt monsters.

But what happens when a veteran player finds himself on the monster's side?

Oren, a high-level guild master, wakes in the body of a lowly goblin. Cast out, betrayed by his most trusted advisors, Oren is stuck in New Era Online. However, there are advantages to being on the monsters’ side. Starting from scratch, he’ll have to build up a powerful monster clan to take revenge. But first, he'll have to survive long enough not to be someone else's fodder.

Life Reset is the first book in the bestselling fantasy LitRPG series that follows a monster main character who wields darkness-based magic. Includes heavy elements of town-building, raising a monster clan, magic, powerful enemies, and asking the deep existential questions of what it means to be alive inside a digital reality.

A great adventure

I am not usually into these types of litrpgs, where the world is a game and everyone knows it. But this story is a great take on this type of world.

Well written, funny, smart with lots of action and twists. its a hefty read at 25 hours as well. Shout out to the sound editors and the narrator who do a great job bringing the story to life.

I, for one, welcome our new green overlords and eagerly await the next book.

Great Story Pacing

Jeff Hays once again did a great job with the narration so the book is enjoyable. Coming into this you are probably already a fan of the genre so know what to expect. Compared to others where this book really shines is the pacing. It’s slow enough to feel believable with enough grind that the main character isn’t all powerful but isn’t a noob either.
The story itself was on the higher end. There was some good plot points that moved the story along well. A good portion of the book is focused on city building but the character progression comes in spurts. (All of the sudden gains several levels) but it’s done for plot convenience so whatever just go with it.
The main character and his companion both are very well done but past that the supporting cast could use a bit more focus.

Overall this is worth the credit.

What I Thought LitRGP Should Have Been

This, for me, is the book. I’ve read a bunch of these LitRPG books and out of my extensive reading of this genre I can recommend this series without compunction.
Here’s the bacj. Jjhh

online fully immersive vr......check.
main guy stuck in the game.......check
evil corperation...........check
ect
ect
ect

Seriously tho, the book is alright. Its nothing way out there but its also not terrible. I enjoyed it and will be returning for the second installment whenever Shemer Kuznits gets it out. I just wish it had a bit more to offer aside from the normal tropes. Its not a bad book but if your not a big fan of litrpg I don't think its going to change your mind over it.

A great start

Would you listen to Life Reset: A LitRPG Novel again? Why?

If i forgot the story of it sure - I like books because I want to know what happens next. I would be bored listening to a story I already knew again. The performance was excellent.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Life Reset: A LitRPG Novel?

The terrifying scene near the end for sure... But also when they delve into the cave and reveal the mystery.

What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?

Everything. Every Jeff Hayes performance is stellar and the work that soundbooth theater puts into the monster and character voices along with the demon voices and god voices is wonderful. I'm an audio engineer by trade and would do it the same way if it were me so I certainly approve.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It had me on the edge of my seat. The most emotion I ever really get from books is anxiety which results in pacing around instead of working while I listen. I could see how it could make other people emotional but its definitely a book centered mostly around logic.

Any additional comments?

I think that the stats were a bit lengthy. I'm not docking points for it because it would make a lot more sense in text form to have the stats all shown. However, since you have to listen to every line instead of skimming over the stats lines you are uninterested in hearing again I did end up fast forwarding some of the stat monologues. It didn't bother me too much because it comes with the genre and I do like a stat focus it's just that unimportant stats were also repeated quite a bit which gets droll because IRL you would skip over those if you were playing the game.

some annoyance but good

fantastic story. tends to repeat things you've heard within the last 5 mind of listening which can be tedious and annoying

Well written

Life Online is a very well written book. My only real issue is the main characters indecision and hangups about dating an attractive female goblin. Get over it and have some fun.
