Bob Odenkirk’s career is inexplicable. And yet he will try like hell to explicate it for you. Charting a “Homeric” decades-long “odyssey” from his origins in the seedy comedy clubs of Chicago to a dramatic career full of award nominations - with a side trip into the action-man world that is baffling to all who know him - it’s almost like there are many Bob Odenkirks! But there is just one and one is plenty. Featuring humorous tangents, wild characters, and Bob’s trademark unflinching drive, Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama is a classic tale told by a determined idiot.

When Norm Macdonald, one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time, was approached to write a celebrity memoir, he flatly refused, calling the genre “one step below instruction manuals.” Norm then promptly took a two-year hiatus from stand-up comedy to live on a farm in northern Canada. When he emerged he had under his arm a manuscript, a genre-smashing book about comedy, tragedy, love, loss, war, and redemption. When asked if this was the celebrity memoir, Norm replied, “Call it anything you damn like.”

Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

From the macro to micro, Shlesinger tackles it all with her no-bullshit comedic style. Throughout the book, Shlesinger dives from one subject into the next, making her hilarious asides the basis of her stories, much like she does in her stand-up comedy. Topics range from dissecting social expectations to the notion that products marketed specifically to women are scams, and all manner of things in between.

Publisher's summary
Lewis Black has built a career on giving voice to the anger of Americans. His standup fills theaters across the country and his appearances on The Daily Show draw hoards Online and on TV. But the current political climate is driving Lewis and his long-time comedy partner, Kathleen Madigan, north for an extended tour of Canada.
Lewis and Kathleen Escape to Canada is a stand-up album with way more than just jokes. The Grammy-award winning comedian performs rants sent in from the public, and he and Kathleen respond to them from the stage. They also bring us onto their fabled tour bus, as they crisscross Canada stopping at places like Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, and Regina to explain why things are the way they are in the USA.

I was disappointed
While I’m sad to have wasted my money on this, I more thrilled that I didn’t burn a credit on this. While I am a big fan of both Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan, this lacks direction and comes across as a crass and tawdry money grab. Black dominates most of the recording from various shows performed in Canada, very little is heard from Madigan other than the unscripted conversations she has with Black. Some of them are brilliant, most are mundane.

Seriously?!?
Seriously, WTF?!? It’s 45 minutes of broken drunken audio of them answering audience questions? I love both of these comedians, but it sounds like the drinks got going long before the stand up did. I’m mean that’s a great life, but I don’t record all my drunken nights out and sell it. 🤔 I may have a good idea...., but anyway it’s a NO.

So-so for listening pleasure
I'm a fan of both of the comedians, but this wasn't an entire set. It was mostly just brief excerpts (real brief) from each of the cities on the trip, where they read the letters on stage, and normally just one or two. There wasn't a coherent story to it. If you're looking for a whole comedy set (such as Lewis at Carnegie Hall), this isn't for you. If you're looking for continuity, this also isn't it. If you don't mind Lewis reading a few things on stage (and I don't, BUT this isn't what I hoped for), then it's got some good bits and it's funny -- and way less Kathleen than I was hoping for on a dual-titled story.

I listened to about ten minutes and stopped. I wanted to listen to something funny but the stupid f***er had to f***ing use f**k in some f***ing form every third f***ing word. What an idiot! It might have been funny but I was totally f***ed out if my mind. He either has a lousy vocabulary or lousy imagination if he can’t think of other words to use. I’m not a prude, but I do have limits.

Set on a large ranch in rural upstate New York, it’s early days for the eccentric group of people who call themselves "The Zeta Family" - quite possibly the next big cult phenomenon. Our protagonist, Katie, is an aspiring reporter who has decided to infiltrate the compound, and her future success as a journalist depends entirely on her ability to win the confidence of Zeta Doug, the likable spiritual leader of the group. He’s like a cross between Hunter S. Thompson and George R. R. Martin, with a little too much sci-fi in his head and acid in his blood stream.

Story
Bob Odenkirk is a legend in the comedy-writing world, winning Emmys and acclaim for his work on Saturday Night Live, Mr. Show with Bob and David, and many other seminal television shows. This book, his first, is a spleen-bruisingly funny omnibus that ranges from absurdist monologues ("Martin Luther King Jr.'s Worst Speech Ever") to intentionally bad theater ("Hitler Dinner Party: A Play"), from avant-garde fiction ("Obit for the Creator of Mad Libs").

Story
Set on a large ranch in rural upstate New York, it’s early days for the eccentric group of people who call themselves "The Zeta Family" - quite possibly the next big cult phenomenon. Our protagonist, Katie, is an aspiring reporter who has decided to infiltrate the compound, and her future success as a journalist depends entirely on her ability to win the confidence of Zeta Doug, the likable spiritual leader of the group. He’s like a cross between Hunter S. Thompson and George R. R. Martin, with a little too much sci-fi in his head and acid in his blood stream.

Story
Sally has recently left an unfulfilling job to volunteer at a living history museum, where she is assigned to the Death House. Every day, she dons Victorian mourning garb and describes traditional funeral services to tourists. It sounds depressing as hell, but for Sally, it’s less depressing than her tepid marriage to her childhood sweetheart. This becomes all too clear when she accidentally travels through time and space to a liminal world where the ghosts of the living history museum haunt its grounds. There, she meets and falls hard for Victorian-era pretty boy Nathaniel.

Story
When 20-year-old Jay Mohr moved to New York City, he never thought he would land his first real job on Saturday Night Live. But he did - and what followed were two crazy years of trying to keep up with his talented cast mates and get on the air as often as possible. Jay offers an intimate first-person account of the inner workings of Saturday Night Live - the audition, the pitch meetings, and how skits make the final cut of the show. Jay also dishes on the guest hosts, the musical guests, and, of course, his cast mates.
