Terrible YA Fantasy

I had a really hard time with this book because of the poor quality of the story itself and the narrator. Someone else wrote "we had a hard time with the narrator because of his tone, it troubled us" and I think that's an understatement. Every time he said "wa-Ter" we would bust out laughing because his pressured pronunciations were so exaggerated and strange that it became difficult to even finish the book. The story itself is an archetyped, coming of age teen fantasy novel. The characters were one-dimensional and boring. To top it all off, there was a lengthy couple of chapters where the author seemed to glorify in the unimaginable pain experienced by the smallest character. I am glad kids weren't listening to this with me because I found it deeply disturbing. I would not recommend this book or audiobook to anyone, and I am usually an undiscerning lover of almost all books in the young adult fantasy genre.

A Good Listen for Younger Audiences

Despite the fact that the characters in this book are 14, the book was obviously written for the preteen or tween set. The book has a certain number of the "young audience" fantasy archetypes: the kid stuck in cruel circumstances, the wise mage to lead him on his quest, the evil enemy bent on controlling the world -- and thus, quite accidentally, destroying it. But the nature of Foo -- the land where all human dreams come from, makes this a little bit different.

I will not tell you it's great, because it is not! But younger audiences should appreciate and enjoy it.

overall pretty good, but

The first half of the story is very very slow, also thr story as a whole is a little repetitive. I feel like the writer could have made the story 2 an a half hours shorter and it would have been a better experience. That said the short comings are out done by the good. The story is overall good and entertaining. The concept is interesting. Characters are fun, and consistent. The performance was great, EB Stevens never disappoints.

Great for kids and teens

This series was my favorite as a teen, and I re-listened to it as an adult for the nostalgia. The things that I found most charming about Skye's writing as a teen are now kind of annoying, frankly. That doesn't change that this was my most favorite series age 14-17. It is cute and charming and random and will always have a special place in my heart, and I think kids and teens will still love it today. If he took out all the super random metaphors he could turn five books into three, but when I was a teen I thought they were funny.

Super fun book for the family

This was a very enjoyable listen. The characters are funny, the plot has enough gravity to make you care, and the narrator does a great job bringing it to life.

We struggled at the start of the book as all of the terminology and kind of intense plot came out. But quickly it became an easy listen that my kids were always begging to listen to.

If only Foo were real

this is one of the most amazing series I've ever read! so creative and so thought provoking in such an astounding way..such a different way. first time I actually read this book I couldn't stop reading it. and that's how all the books are. Skye pulls you into Foo via your imagination and its so magnificent there that you just don't wanna leave.
