Publisher's summary

In our culture, the “good life” means getting more. This series of retreat talks challenges listeners to subtract--to release whatever hinders us from siding with the cosmic Christ, whether that be in our inner world or our outer world. Father Rohr offers a daring vision which calls us to surrender, to liberation, to making room for real freedom.

Richard is always amazing

He challenges us to look beyond the stays quo …but I would say that many middle class Americans have newer cars because we drive 25000 miles a year and can’t afford to not to show up to work. Just saying! 😊

Best talk series by Richard Rohr

Of all the series that Fr Richard has made this, I believe, is his very best. An important and practical message.

Classic Rohr

His concepts are so common sense, down to earth, and challenging. He always makes me think and at the same time is encouraging. Letting Go is a must listen.

Excellent!

These talks are the equivalent of a condensed seminary education in spirituality..having just finished Fuller, it seems that Rohr made a synthesis of all of the spirituality courses and with so many perceptive insights into American culture and Christianity!

Another Excellent Book from a Master Teacher

I've listened to and read 5 books by Richard Rohr so far, and all of them have taught me how to be a better person. I'm not Catholic, but Father Rohr goes beyond catholicism, beyond religion, and reminds us of the universality of ALL living beings. I cannot recommend his books enough if you're seeking the connection between us all and the universal Christ.

My only complaint has nothing to do with this book's message. I hope they will redo this at some point and make the chapters line up with the individual talks that he gives. They often begin and end in the middle of a chapter. I remedy that by placing bookmarks at the beginning of each talk, making it easier to go back and listen to specific ones. That issue is not enough to reduce the rating, because the content of the book itself is excellent. So despite that minor irritation, I will continue to go back to this, and all of his books, many times over because there is life changing information offered in every one.

If you are a seeker of true wisdom, you will find it here.

many truths, but politics is the answer?

I've been listening to Richard Rohr for a while now because he offers Truth you won't find elsewhere, but in this book, like others, I hear a lot of liberal politics as the answer to problems. Yes, I do still hear Christ as the answer as well, which is why I keep reading, but in my view, He is the ONLY answer and to direct us to politics puts the power (and the subsequent glory) in the hands of men, not God. I criticize my own conservative church for the same thing and was disappointed to find the counterpart here. It is difficult to find genuine Christianity, but I have seen it and been a part of it. I guess I'm still searching.
