In the ruins of war, trauma, and unspoken pain, mercy still runs.
Letters from the Ruins: Mercy for Every Wounded Heart is a collection of raw, intimate, unsent letters written from one scarred soul to others who carry invisible weight.
From combat veterans still hearing incoming in quiet rooms, to fathers afraid their children see only the cracks, to chaplains searching for the right words, to the spouses, parents, and friends who love through the fractures—these letters speak directly to every heart that has ever felt too far gone, unforgivable, or lost in the dark.
Drawing on lived experience as a combat veteran and single father, the author writes with unflinching honesty about moral injury, survivor guilt, the long return home, and the slow, deliberate work of containment—one interrupted episode at a time.
Blending Scripture (canonical and wider echoes), metal lyrics that became prayers, and the quiet persistence of mercy, these letters do not offer quick fixes or platitudes.
They offer presence.
They offer the reminder that the doors are wide.
They offer the truth that the Father never stops running—toward the broken, the limping, the questioning, the ones who still can't look in the mirror.
Whether you carry the scars of war, love someone who does, or simply know what it feels like to wrestle with shame and doubt, these letters are for you.
You are not alone. You are not beyond reach. Mercy is already running.
Come as you are.
The Table is set.
Your seat is still empty.
Perfect for veterans, military families, trauma survivors, chaplains, spiritual seekers, and anyone walking through moral injury, PTSD, or the long road of healing.
Step into the ruins.
The doors are wide open.

Granted the book isn't 100% for me I am able to hear the benefit in the telling. Overall this is a good book for anyone that fight an unseen war in their hearts and minds.

This short book starts with the author asking veterans whom are still in the dark to keep on breathing. As in every book I read about self help, I try to put myself in that position and “pretend” the author is talking to me and giving me advice. This was not the exception. Every day I wake up and tell myself to keep on breathing. So far… it’s working 🙏🏼.
The chapter 3 letter is the question we all ask ourselves. Why me? Sometimes we get the answer and other times we die never being able to answer that. You/we blame everything and everyone. Your parents, siblings, friends, teachers, even God.
Once the author moves to the fifth letter he reminds everyone that the pain we feel is real. Even if others are not able to see it or feel it. The pain is there and it’s real, let’s acknowledge this.
By the time I reached letter nine, I was in tears. Not just a few straggling tears here and there… no, I was crying and sobbing like a little kid and not a 59 year old grandmother!!!
The author dedicates a whole “chapter “ on asking the reader to give themselves permission to be humans and another beautiful letter to the people that love the military. The author gives the family, friends, children and other loved ones thanks for not giving up on them, for always being there even when it’s hard.
This was a great short book which was sent to me as an ARC.thank you for trusting me with this and good luck!
Another great book!!!
