Publisher's Summary

Written in prison and based on real-life experiences, this is the novel that launched the writing and publishing career of the best-selling author of Still Dirty, Dirty Red, and Imagine This, the reigning "queen of urban fiction" (Publishers Weekly).

Vickie M. Stringer wrote Let That Be the Reason when she was still serving her seven-year sentence for drug trafficking. When she couldn't find a publisher, she printed the novel herself and sold it out of the trunk of her car. "I've exposed myself with the prayer that my life can be used as an example to warn others of the awful dangers of the drug game," she wrote in its afterword.

Let That Be the Reason begins when a drug dealer abandons his girlfriend, Pamela Xavier, leaving her with nothing but a stack of bills, an empty refrigerator, and an impending eviction notice. Backed into a corner and with no prospects in sight, Pamela decides to get her hustle on. Transforming herself into Carmen, she learns to deal with the streets, the playas, the drug lords - and, of course, the law - by any means necessary. In no time, she is running a call girl service, a fencing operation, and a drug cartel, all while still being a mom. Carmen wants money, but she also wants happiness. The problem is that she doesn't quite understand what real happiness is and what real love means - or what it all costs.

Let That Be the Reason is a true-to-life saga of a woman's love, ambition to survive, forgiveness, and salvation.

Very disappointed 😔

I was expecting so much more of this book. The story line was boring. I had a hard time finishing it. I wouldn't dare get the 2 book.

Pretty Boring

This book was prettt boring. It takes forever to even get kind of interesting. I think it would’ve been much better if Chino was actually still out to kill or hurt the woman (whose name I’ve forgotten) and ended up having to work with her after she become like a queen pin. There definitely should’ve been more sex scenes as well. I also think you should’ve involved and shared more about Chino’s wife to make it more interesting. I just don’t understand the pin t of the book, just wasn’t dramatic enough for me. I love your other book series but this wasn’t what I had expected.

Exceptional!

I read this book many years ago. Since then I have read countless urban/street novels. I had totally forgotten the storyline of this book. It was as if I was hearing it for the first time again. I was totally submerged in Carmen's story. So full of truth and passion and totally relatable. The narration was on point. I've always enjoyed iikane's storytelling but she made me feel as if she was Carmen herself telling her story. Thank You Ms. Vicki for giving us your life in short. And let that be the reason!

OMG! this book is straight bull!

Ok I'm from Columbus wow a lot of people went to prison because of people like you! it's crazy the fact that you told on people to get a deal! people know in the streets if your throwing rocks at the penitentiary then be ready for what comes next! The code is still the same no matter what! You were in these streets doing the most and then sold people out to keep from doing a "323" month sentence! well I guess karma is a bitch heard your not doing so well anymore?
