Lera's sorrow

This is the first book to the Darkliete trilogy. It was awesome. It introduces the fantasy realms of Madean & Frain and takes you through the journey of Lera, a young elven healer faced with insurmountable odds

Good Setup for 'Book 2'

I kind of felt like this book should have been labelled as a prequel or novella. However, it contains a good bit of necessary information for Illera's Darkliete.

Well written, but the most important part about this book is that it sets up the world and gives us a background as to where Illera comes from and where her mother went. There are some very cold aspects about this short book as far as Ian and Lera's relationship is concerned. Ian and Lera's 'bonding' is kind of sudden and then their love for each other is kind of hard to see. Plus there is a very catty mother-in-law.

It is short enough intriguing enough that I am interested to see where the author takes us in the next book of the series.

Also, I liked the narrator's performance, I feel like she did a pretty good job staying consistent with voice changes and speed.

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Pretty short but good

I was given this book in exchange for a voluntary review.

I usually listen to the bigger epic fantasy books because there is a lot of detail but this book was just as good to me. The writing was excellent, as was the narrator. Definitely want to listen to the rest of the series

A good story but don’t listen with children around

This is a lovely story about love and loss. The narrator has a wonderful rich voice full of expression. In a way it asks what would someone do when faced with an impossible choice. I recommend this book to adults who enjoy a good fantasy setting. The only thing I would warn people about is that there is a sex scene, it is important to the story. I was surprised by it but it was well done. Personally I prefer to know ahead of time when books have this type of content.

Great Book!

The author done a great job on this book. I’m eager to hear to listen to book 2. It has such a mystical twist which I like. I would recommend to anyone.

Should've been book 0.5 rather than 1.

I think I'm going to like this series. I like the setup, the world and fantasy setting seem wonderful and the narrator is great. My only complaint with this story is that it feels like a prequel novella rather than the first book; and while that works great for a setup and timeline you come in to the story feeling a bit like your missing something as you have no back story for these charaters and it takes you a bit to get into the story. My best description would be like a novella an author release between books or as part of an anthology to give the reader more of charaters they love and more back story. But since this is the first book you aren't in love with these charaters yet and the story isn't as satastifing. However it's still a good little novella and I like the writing style, the fantasy world and imagine I will really enjoy the next book as it is longer. Think I may have enjoyed this one better if I listen to them in reverse. I was given a copy of this Audiobook in exchange for my honest review all thoughts and comments on the book are my own.

Wish it were longer, but was more than pleasant.

I was given the opportunity to review this book for a copy.

I’d like to say this was by far the best book I’ve gotten to trade a review for. The writing was eloquent, the vocabulary superb. Lera wasn’t what I would consider a strong character but she maintained her position throughout the whole book. She didn’t start out one way and end in a 180 of her character, and I appreciated that.

I felt the book would have benefited from more exposition. A lot that happened was confusing and jarring, not having a background to the terms within the book. Even so, I felt it was absolutely a pleasant read.

To cap.

1. I felt the over all story could have used more foreshadowing, development and time spent on building the world. I’d have loved to see more of that.

2. Characters were consistent and enjoyable.

3. The one major complaint would be no glossary, or head’s up about some of the words the author used. Half the time with the words for things, or events I had to guess at. I realize glossaries in audiobooks is nearly impossible, but you know...

I would like to see book two. But I’d like it to be a lot longer than a little over an hour.

The narrator did a great job. I enjoyed listening to this story. It took a while to become interested, but once I was in, I had to know what was next. I rate this book with 3 Boundless stars; I liked it.

fun but short

this story was refreshing, even though I felt like the things with the two romantic characters moved fairly quickly it was easy to look past. I am looking forward to what's to come.

I received this audio book free for an honest review.

Totally Enchanted!

I really really loved this book. Chloe DeBurgh did an amazing job with the narration. I was enchanted from the beginning and listened to it in one afternoon. It is short which was the only thing I didn’t like- that it ended - but I am happy to know the story will continue. I love Elves, Selkies, Evil Queens and a handsome prince so this book had it all. It’s my first Gail Gernat book but I will definitely be looking at all her others. Once again, the narration was amazing, great story with a perfectly matched narration
