Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Garber’s limitless imagination takes flight once more in the colorful, mesmerizing, and immersive sequel to the best-selling breakout audiobook debut Caraval

A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.

After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister, Scarlett, from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more - and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets...including her sister's. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about - maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval...the games have only just begun.

painfully long and boring

Too much talk not enough action. I gave up around chapter 14 skipped to the last few to confirm I had figured out the plot. This book was torture and felt like a filler book dragged out to sell and make you buy a 3rd book to see what happens. I hate that kind of waste of my time and money. probably skipping the last book. I liked the first book but this gave me headache.

The Most Annoying Sisters You'll Ever Read About

I was expecting a lot & was sadly disappointed. I found Scarlett to be whiny in the extreme. Don't get me started on Nutty Tella. Beyond exasperating. And if Scarlett screamed, TELLA! one more time I was going to scream. The characters were caricatures. If you're looking for strong female leads, keep moving. The two sisters are idiots. I got this on sale at Christmas. I see the second book is out. I'm willing to see where it goes & hope it improves. Overall, I didn't find it very original.

Just like a movie

I will start off by saying the narrator is amazing! The story itself seemed a carbon copy of the original book. It was quite predictable and did not hold the same magic and mystique of the original. This seems like a forced attempt at a sequel.

Hard to finish

I loved Caraval and was very excited to start on Legendary. I started to get bored about half way through. I kept on and made my way to the end... Not saying I was disappointed but the story felt a bit flat.

Terrible reader. Writing not as good as book 1

Definitely struggled to finish this one!
The reader had one voice. Writing wasn't as good as Caraval.

Kind of A Let Down

I loved the first book! I know people had a problem with Scarlett, but I really liked her! So, when I heard we’d get a book about Tella, I was so excited! But it turns out I don’t like Tella very much. Even Scarlett was out of character. The reveal of Legend was so not good! The only thing I liked was Caraval and the Fates. I will read the next book, not with excited anymore.

not as good as the first one

it was a good finish to the story, however I think some of the newness and Intrigue was lost because I already knew the story and the players in it.

Not as good as the first

Honestly I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first. I wasn’t a huge fan of Tella in the first book so having this be entirely in her POV was a bit annoying. The over the top metaphors and near constant sexual/romantic tension got old quick. I enjoyed learning about the Fates though. A few plot points were easy to figure out like the last book. Parts of the book seemed repetitive as well. The ending is clearly set up for another book...I hope this time we get some of Legend’s POV, he is the most interesting character in the series.

The performance was quite good as well, although not spectacular.

A Dazzling World, Lost in a Random Plot

So it's no secret that this book was my most anticipated book of the entire year and the moment it came out I couldn't wait until I began to read it .. Caraval is returning with a setting more glamorous than the last Caraval and stakes are even higher, there are the Fates who are trying to reclaim their powers to rule the world once more and Tella who is playing the game to save her mother but got stuck in that vicious web and this cruel game
The world of this Caraval is bigger and wider and I enjoyed being there .. but the story .. not so much, Tella as reckless as she is is not fun at all .. she just don't think at all that I was so frustrated with her through the story, and I didn't like Dante at all and I was so bumped that he was the " main love interest " in the story
The ending was such a random mess and I was so shocked that this was where we will leave this world until the next book
I wish if the story was better than this because Caraval was amazing .. I just hope the story will redeem itself in the third book

As expected from my favorite narrator Rebecca Soler she was amazing and I was really glad they picked her for this series she was one of the great things about this book
