Publisher's summary

Being a hero always has its price, but what happens if that price is too high to pay?

Fresh off their victory over Graves and his followers, Marcus and his friends have managed to enjoy a few weeks of relative calm and peace as they continue to build Aldford, preparing the town for a new wave of settlers coming from Eberia. But as the days wear on with no new arrivals in sight, they begin to fear the worst. Eventually setting out to search for their promised reinforcements, they soon realize that they weren't as alone on the frontier as they thought they were.

Just managing to rescue a caravan of settlers in the nick of time from a horde of bandits, Marcus and the rest of Virtus barely have a chance to catch their breath before they find themselves thrust into the middle of Eberian politics, revealing a plot that threatens to not only take away their hard-won independence, but to destroy Aldford completely.

it's a good book.

Good book over all, has most of the magic of the 1st one. However it suffers from very repeated dialog. I would say "azure", "speed of thought" and "maw" are used at least over 100 times each along with a few other words. I think for the next book this author needs to word count and use a thesaurus beucase it gets to the point where it takes you out of the story.

Couldn't stop listening

Love it! Fantastic addition to the series, can't wait until the next one comes out. I really enjoy the way things are progressing, but man, poor Mark just happens to be fate's punching bag and can't seem to catch a break. Though the way he handles the crap thrown at him with loyal and actually helpful friends 'n allies makes me happy and excited for each event hurled at 'em.

Great!

A seriously great sequel. My only issue is with a few characters cringe-worthy, teenager-sounding voice. Otherwise amazing.

Awesome continuation of the first book!

Great storyline continuation from where the first book left off. I read book 1 first and now this book after reading the reviews of book 1.5. The second book may not have anything to do with the original book but it does cover the story of a key character that is introduced in this book. I plan on reading book 1.5 next to get that characters background as they play a big part in this book even if they aren’t one of the original supporting characters. Would love a book of short stories from all the supporting characters perspectives about why they chose their classes and give some background into their relationship with Marcus (spelling?). Can’t wait to see where this series goes to next!!!

Good Enough if you liked the first book

Pros:
Lots of good fun vrpg action
Return to Alford
Plenty of familiar characters from book 1
Cool spells & powers
Characters seem to have more personality

Cons:
Drags in some parts especially when narrator gets excessively descriptive.
Cheesy guild humor
Couple of f-bombs and GDs, personally not my thing but at least they’re limited somewhat compared to the first book. It bugged me more in the last book because it made all of the characters who cursed all the time seen one dimensional and unintelligibly represented from a voicing standpoint. This one it’s not as noticeable. The writer must be getting better at those things.

Great!

I love how the story is playing out and I'm excited for more. I hope the next book focuses more on Lazarus.

A great RPG!

Legacy of the Fallen picks up where Ascend Online leaves off and manages to seamlessly blend book 1.5 in as well. I'd recommend reading those first. The book builds throughout and tells a great story. Fans of RPGs should definitely read this series. As always, Luke Daniels does a great job mixing voices and cadences to portray different characters.

Makes me wish I could play ascend online

This series makes me laugh and gets so engrossed in what is going on that I forget what I was doing before hand. The characters are some of my favorite in any book I've read and by audiobook that grows tenfold with this series
