Publisher's summary

A priceless gem. A hunger for vengeance. A love they'll risk everything to claim.

First, they killed her father. Now Courtney Johnston is imprisoned aboard a privateer ship, an unwitting pawn in a nefarious scheme to snatch a rare and coveted diamond. Determined to take her revenge, the resourceful sea captain's daughter never dreams that fate will sweep her into the embrace of a dashing earl on his own desperate mission.

Slayde Huntley, earl of Pembourne, will gladly barter his family's priceless gem in exchange for the return of his kidnapped sister, Aurora. But Courtney, the fiery beauty who steps onto the plank like a sea nymph, is a shock to his senses. Blindsided by passion, Slayde joins Courtney to restore what is rightfully theirs...even as a centuries-old legacy of murder and betrayal threatens to tear them apart forever.

good overall

this narrator always gives the heroines a sickly sweet or haughty prim voice, you get used to it but it is annoying. the author lacks historical knowledge and some of her ideas are wildly off, but unlike some of her other books this and follow up book are consenting people that meet as adults and are honest with each other. Very low on brooding hurt man scale or creepy advances.

A fun romantic story!

I enjoyed this book #2 in series much better than book #1, The Legacy of the Diamond. The narrator is not the best; nonetheless, after awhile I got used to her. It is a long book, and I found myself speeding the narration up at times. Having stated this, I am happy for the time I spend with this title. I would also highly recommend the following books from Ms. Andrea Kane: My Heart’s Desire and Samantha. They are Book 1 and 2 from The Barrett Family Series. Enjoy!

Entertaining and compelling

This is the second series that I’ve read by this author on Audible. I enjoyed the prior one and this book which is the first of this series. Ms Kane writes about strong women characters in a time where women were to defer to men for mental acuity. The women in her books don’t sit back. They take the lead and work to the outcome.

Intriguing, Kane has done it again.

This would be a top rate action thriller if it weren't for the porn sections. But that is typical of Kane. I skip through them because I like her story. She is great at creating the romance scene. A look, the first touch, a kiss, an embrace, the strong desire, falling in love, more intimacy. Then it gets carried away and it turns to porn. Makes me wonder how many people skip the story and go straight for the "juicy" parts. Is this a story of the heart or of the libido?

Pretty good.

Too many “I love yous” from H and H and a bit too quickly. Somehow the author could have developed the love a little more convincingly. Very predictable too. On the other hand, it was a fun read and it is part of audible plus at this point. Not sure whether I would have spent a credit. The narrator is a bit irritating and the plot as well. Then again, I listened through in two days. I think pretty good says it all. I didn’t want to stop listening but it was periodically irritating. Overall, I’d give it a listen.

The Narrator

I see a lot of people complaining about the main female’s childish voice. I am here to give my opinion that character is not childish. The narrator’s voice is uncommonly high. And when she does the female voices, she raises it even more. Yes it can be annoying unless you just accept it and really listen to the words of the book to ascertain the players real character. I thought the book was great with not much angst (which I enjoyed.) The is a second book to continue the story, although this book does not end with a cliff hanger. All in all I would give this book a 4+ rating despite the high voice of the narrator.

Fun adventure!

I typically don't listen to historical adventure or romance books, but I quite liked this one. It was a fun mystery that was well paced. Gobbled it up in a day and can't wait for the next one.

Interesting Story

A light but enjoyable read! It was very fairy tale like. The characters are well developed and the story was well read.

Annoying narration

Good story. Enjoyed it enough to read the 2nd book.

Natator is awful.
Her women's voices all sounds like Minnie Mouse. She uses inappropriate voice inflection for the context of the scene continuously throughout the story. She often carries syllables far longer than what they should be, totally dragging on words to give more meaning, but at inappropriate times in relation to what's going on. And since she can do an ok male voice, of which all sound like elderly men, she could certainly make the women's voices sound less like abnormally high pitched 7 year old girls.
