Publisher's Summary

High-powered business executive Layla McCarthy has lost everything, but an abandoned theatre is about to usher in a brand new act in her life.

Layla McCarthy has spent most of her life trying to outrun the wild reputation of the mother who abandoned her. Raised by her grandmother - Dr. Barbara McCarthy, one of the first female surgeons in Florida - Layla puts all her faith in building a career, only to lose everything. Then, she learns her grandmother and great aunt have bought a run-down dinner theater in her hometown of Shellwater Key, Florida, and Layla returns to make sure her relatives don't lose their life savings. Reviving The Paradise brings an unexpected romance with Grayson Kendall, the sexy and enigmatic theatre director brought in to produce the first show. But nothing will ever be the same when Layla's long-lost mother returns, looking to make amends. Layla doesn't think it's possible to forgive or forget...until she learns the truth behind her abandonment all those years ago, including the dark role played by her beloved grandmother.

In the end, The Paradise will become the backdrop as Layla opens her heart to love, and three generations of McCarthy women find a way through past mistakes to a new life filled with hope and redemption.

Struggled to finish.

Absolutely loathed the lead character! She was a self- absorbed, whiny, childish, overly dramatic person, who was too quick to blame everyone else for her pathetic existence. She had no ability to forgive or show empathy, so her epiphany at the end seemed more of a ploy to wrap up the story, than a believable life change. The attempt at a teaser for the next book on the series was ham- handed and pathetic. No way was I going to subject myself to this again . Best part about this book was the fact that it was included in my plan, so I didn't have to waste a credit.

loved it

I love this author! I've read several of her books and really enjoyed the audible version. A story of redemption, forgiveness and grace.

Ugh!

The best thing about this book was finishing it. Whiny, most immature main character was the absolute worst. What a relief to be done with this. Don't waste your time.

Tedious. Very very tedious.

Main character has the emotional stability of a mid schooler. Too much worthless angst! Ugh

Audio version

The audio was not the best. The main character was ok but the interpretation of the older characters was annoying.

Main character’s focus is Poor Me

I couldn’t finish this book because the main character was so unbearably self-centered and whiny. Maybe she grew up by the end, but I could not push through to find out.

A struggle to keep listening

The main character was so whiney and a “poor me” mentality that made it difficult for me to keep listening. I wish she had a lot more backbone and would stand up for herself against others.
