To be fair....

To be fair to the people at Innovative Language, don't cr@p all over them due to a technical issue on Audible's part. I usually download audio books in Format 4. That version came in corrupt, and I was only able to hear, "This is Audible." The Enhanced version works perfectly.

Also this is a short, free preview of their box set, which is a rehash of the audio content from Japanesepod101. This maybe more convenient to a few of us. As far as content goes, this is great for the beginner. Maybe even better than Pimsluer's Japanese. I still believe you should use more than one program to learn a language because different programs will tackle a language from different angles. But if you're a newbie, this series is a great start. Then I would incorporate Micheal Thomas. Later on Pimsluer's. As you learn, also immerse yourself in Japanese culture and media. (websites, KeyHileTV, manga, etc) Also learn Kana, Katakana, and Hiragana.

Don't take my word for it, download all of the freebees, and try out the lessons for yourself.

Konnichiwa, hajimemashite. Tania desu. C:

What made the experience of listening to Learn Japanese with Innovative Language's Proven Language System - Level 1: Introduction to Japanese the most enjoyable?

How casual it was while being so explicit, I already knew everything they discussed in this lesson, but listening to how this audio book described it was very enjoyable.

What other book might you compare Learn Japanese with Innovative Language's Proven Language System - Level 1: Introduction to Japanese to and why?

This is my first audio book so I can't say really.

Which character – as performed by Peter Galante and Naomi Kambe – was your favorite?

There weren't any characters, but those two are pretty favorable characters themselves. ;)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wouldn't say that I was 'moved', per-say, but I really enjoyed the intentional side conversations Peter and Naomi had.

Any additional comments?

I really did like 'reading' this book, But to be honest, I had many issues when downloading this book to my iTunes, so after I had given up, it somehow worked, and I was able to listen to more than "ten seconds" of audio. The only real issue I see with the AUDIO is that the directions/instructions in the beginning are just TOO long, it almost made me not even want to listen to the audio, I think it would be better just to keep those written down that to fill up so much of the lesson's time.

In short, on my experience with other Japanese programs compared to this, it was really well done and very thought out. I think that it deserves more appreciation If you're looking for simple sentences explained in depth with real-life examples, with grammar and customs details, then I think this program would be just right for you. What hae you got to lose? It's free. :D

And by the way, the real lesson doesn't start until 11 minutes in. :/

waste

lesson one seem to be a waste of time and a waste of a free "book" to start off with.

Great lesson for learning basic greetings.

It's great for those learning the basic greeting phrases, though I struggled to learn the second "nice to meet you" phrase. It seemed like they didn't cover that one in particular as much as they did the first one. Still, great lesson on greetings!

short but a start

I am new. so may take me awhile to learn. but I guess I can listen over & over again. I wish there was a why Audible could play short audio file as a loop so we can listen to it many times over and over again while you go to sleep or ride on a bus. but maybe only for short files. as long books most people would not need this feature.

Advertisements

Spam.. Just an add for the lessons. Waste of time. You would think a sample of actual lessons would be a good idea but these are just 5 to 45-minute advertisements for the lessons you get no actual feel of the content.

Great introduction

I think this is a great introductory lesson to Japanese and am excited to listen to the rest of the series. It's short enough to be convenient and interesting enough to listen to multiple times. I especially like that it includes grammar and cultural tips instead of just vocabulary. I discovered a few minutes ago that the audible download does include the PDF that they talk about using as a supplement to the audio track, so I'm going to have a look.

One huge advert

This is just a large advertisement for buying the whole series outright. This is a shame because I enjoy watching the JapanesePod101 series on YouTube. Unfortunately, it has put me off buying the series, so it has had the opposite effect. It would have been much better to give at least a bit of a taster as to what we could learn by buying the full series, but it doesn't even do that. Very poorly executed and needs to be removed.

Too much chatting, slow language learning.

The pace felt incredibly sluggish and was buffered with a lot of banter between the two hosts. While I appreciate the fact that the hosts are attempting to explain the culture of Japan, having clear sections between phrases and etiquette would have made it less frustrating. The idle chatter doesn't put me in the mood for learning and I would have preferred a quicker pace when it came to learning phrases.

A good feel for what the system is like

If you're curious what the lessons are actually like and how the material is presented, this is an accurate summary of the longer series.

I find it fun and easy to understand.
