    Best for Review

What made the experience of listening to Learn Japanese: Word Power 101 the most enjoyable?

I think this works best for listeners who are already studying the basics, like vocabulary and grammar. For an absolute beginner, it may be overwhelming. I study Japanese on and off (and it probably helps that I took two years worth of academic courses in high school), and I am happy to note that I understood almost all of this lesson, and it's free!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Learn Japanese: Word Power 101?

It's really great for review, and for me, it helps cement the basic grammatical structure of the language without the dry and tedious grammar lessons that are typical of academia-based courses. Academia is great if you are majoring in the language from an expert linguist or university-level perspective, but for someone who just wants to start speaking naturally as quickly as possible, I find this much more helpful. Academic/linguistic reductionism can wait until you've at least learned some basic vocabulary and phrases! Anyway, that's why I like audiobooks or podcasts like these, because I can hear the language being spoken naturally. For this specific lesson, like I said, I think it works best if you already know basic vocab and grammar, but for the price (free), it's very good!

    Completely updated & awesome!

If you could sum up Learn Japanese: Word Power 101 in three words, what would they be?

    practical, short, effective

    Any additional comments?

The new update of this book is way better than what used to be here. The words are actually the top 100 words, and each one is given with a phrase, and very practical sample sentences.

    Not for beginners

The accompanying pdf doesn’t match with this book. It would have gotten more stars if it matched up. The individual pieces are fine, but I need the pdf that matches with the book.

    Advertisements

Spam.. Just an add for the lessons. Waste of time. You would think a sample of actual lessons would be a good idea but these are just five to 45-minute advertisements for the lessons you get no actual feel of the content.

    Inaccurate translations

There are many inaccurate translations and things that are not possible to understand. Use this only if you just need to hear some Japanese and already know the vocabulary well enough to notice mistakes.

    I like the concept.

I like the concept. But the narrator pronouciation was off and not clear, even tough she is Japanese.

it's a step up beginners who have the basics down.

When the native speaker spoke, the beginning of some of the words would cut out. but other than that, it had excellent examples for different scenarios. overall good immersion into the language.
