American food is the story of mash-ups. Immigrants arrive, cultures collide, and out of the push-pull come exciting new dishes and flavors. But for Edward Lee, who, like Anthony Bourdain or Gabrielle Hamilton, is as much a writer as he is a chef, that first surprising bite is just the beginning. What about the people behind the food? What about the traditions, the innovations, the memories? A natural-born storyteller, Lee decided to hit the road and spent two years uncovering fascinating narratives from every corner of the country.

You should have experienced situations when people do not understand you when you are in a foreign country. Especially when you are ordering food, you probably want to go to the kitchen and instruct on how to cook or even cook for yourself.
This happens even more when you are asking for direction. People give you a random answer and try to get over it.
You might doubt yourself whether the place that you visit is a wrong choice with unfriendly people.
Statistics shows that actually friendly attitude to foreigners: 87.1 percent and general friendliness: 89.2 percent. How come the people that you meet are not one of them?
This is mostly because people are always uncomfortable with people who speak a language they are not familiar with. With the right dialogue, people will be more accepting and give a more friendly response.

- Moderate speech speed and repetition for easy learning
- Loads of useful word, including food, hotspots, and souvenirs

Very Helpful for the Beginner!
I was always intimidated by the thought of learning Cantonese after hearing how difficult a language it is to learn from so many people. This book took care of that fear and I now feel comfortable enough to at least converse on a novice level. With my new job taking me to Macau and the surrounding areas, this book was a great find for me.

But are we at last developing a food culture or are we just going through the motions? Eating for England is an entertaining, detailed, and somewhat tongue-in-cheek observation of the British and their food, their cooking, their eating, and how they behave in restaurants.
