Tragedy has struck His Majesty's Aerial Corps, whose magnificent fleet of fighting dragons and their human captains valiantly defend England's shores against the encroaching armies of Napoleon Bonaparte. An epidemic of unknown origin and no known cure is decimating the noble dragons' ranks, forcing the hopelessly stricken into quarantine. In Wisdom, Shelter. That’s the official motto of the Scholomance. I suppose you could even argue that it’s true—only the wisdom is hard to come by, so the shelter’s rather scant. Our beloved school does its best to devour all its students—but now that I’ve reached my senior year and have actually won myself a handful of allies, it’s suddenly developed a very particular craving for me.

Publisher's Summary
With the acclaimed Temeraire novels, New York Times best-selling author Naomi Novik has created a fantasy series like no other. Now, with League of Dragons, Novik brings the imaginative tour-de-force that has captivated millions to an unforgettable finish.
Napoleon’s invasion of Russia has been roundly thwarted. But even as Capt. William Laurence and the dragon Temeraire pursue the retreating enemy through an unforgiving winter, Napoleon is raising a new force, and he’ll soon have enough men and dragons to resume the offensive.
While the emperor regroups, the allies have an opportunity to strike first and defeat him once and for all - if internal struggles and petty squabbles don’t tear them apart.
Aware of his weakened position, Napoleon has promised the dragons of every country - and the ferals, loyal only to themselves - vast new rights and powers if they fight under his banner. It is an offer eagerly embraced from Asia to Africa - and even by England, whose dragons have long rankled at their disrespectful treatment.
But Laurence and his faithful dragon soon discover that the wily Napoleon has one more gambit at the ready - one that that may win him the war, and the world.
Critic Reviews
"These are beautifully written novels, not only fresh, original and fast-paced, but full of wonderful characters with real heart." (Peter Jackson)
"Novik won me over with her first novel...the combination of military history, sympathetic characters, and engaging style makes this series great, intelligent fun." (The Times)
"Plenty of intrigue, swordplay, exotic locations, plausible invention. In short a treat." (The Telegraph)

Good but could be better
I like the series, but not the best book in it. Got closure, but a little lame ending.

Real grand finale
This last volume of the series took me on an emotional roller coaster.
From Novik's standalones I was ready for any kind of ending, and I wasn't disappointed.
The book reminded me of some favorite quotes and scenes from other favorite books, which added to my enjoyment.
Have fun!

Slighly dissapointing end to a good series
The first book in this series is the best. Some later ones are good, but none measure up.
This book closes the serie and leaves me wishing for a more fitting end. Tha being said, if you know the historical characters, this might be the best outcome possible for all sides...

Dissapointing end to an epic
I love this series, but sadly this last book was way to rushed. I could feel it from the beginning that Novik was trying to wrap it all up, but the universe is so vast that it is not possible for one book alone to make this satisfactory. I'm quite sad and dissapointed that the author made such a bungle of this last book. It's a real shame she could not have the patience to stretch the end over two volumes.
I do respect that ending such a vast project could not be in any way easy, but having devoured every other Novik book on audible I know she could have done better.

Fantastic end to the series, even if i wouldve preferred to experience the final battle between temeraire and his nemesis on page, i get this book is more about the characters than the battles

A fitting end to a wonderful series
As with the rest of the series, the voice acting and story is outstanding, I never got bored due to excellent pacing that leaves the unnecessary out and gives thrilling twists throughout.

Fantastic series, very sad to have finished
It's been a companion for months, this series, all of it. Loved it, entirely.
Beautiful characterisation. I loved the way she explores the world through these characters and makes it clear who and what they are and are about.
I've more to add, for a later edit. Just wanted this review up soonest.
Also love the voices by Simon Vance!

End to a saga
from reading the first book during highschool, to finishing the series in audio in my working years, and i can say that though I'm sad for the series to end its been a hell of a ride and an experience i will treasure and anyone who is a fan of dragons or alternate history, should pick this up either in audio or book form.
